The RCMP is calling them victims. This is laughable. There are over 4 million prostitutes in China, and most of them are under 27. It shouldn't be very difficult to recruit willing volunteers from the thousands of brothels and massage parlours, especially in Southern China, to go on an adventure trip to Canada. Much more money, much better clients, better working and living conditions and avoiding the threat of being locked up in a Chinese jail for a year after a Chinese police raid (well, they do call them victims here in Canada!) and then being shipped back to the village in shame. Hell! some do-gooders here are even proposing to accept those caught here as refugees, which would be a dream come true for many of them!

Most prostitutes in Hong Kong are from the mainland, and they are there on 7 to 30 day tourist visas. They are handled by the Triads, including advertising and accommodations, but the returns are sufficiently higher that there's a steady stream of willing volunteers. In comparison, getting the chance to go to Canada with everything arranged would definitely be hitting the prostitution jackpot.

Believe me, if most of these people were badly treated, word would soon get around in China. Rather, there seems to be a steady stream of willing volunteers precisely because of the benefits. Many of them want to make enough quick money to start a business or buy a house there, which is next to impossible in China for ordinary people. Many find out about the opportunities through word of mouth from those who have already been and returned.

People have dreams... even prostitutes.

I second Wilbur's thoughts. To add to that, we have seen the videos on youtube. Girls walking around the hotel lobbies in Macau China while the pimp is waiting for one to be picked up. So the choice is given to them. Bang some cheap gambler in Macau for a couple of dollars or come to Canada and make some serious money. Regardless of how or if this promise is fulfilled, they come here because they want to and money is their motivation.

So that leaves one logical conclusion. The pimps behind them are the problem because they make too much money. Money brings power, often political power and thats when things go bad. So, perhaps the new laws, or old trafficking laws, aren't about the girls being trafficked, but because of the pimps getting too much money and power, while screwing the financial industry, the real estate industry, etc etc with the tons of money they make from this trafficking. Result is the average family can't afford to live in Vancouver because a little house costs a gazillion dollars. So maybe there is some logic in all this mess.

BTW, I would stay away from any Asian style incall agency, even Asian massage place or indy Asian girl in Ottawa. Too risky and the consequences are too severe.

The rates of some Asian agencies went from 220h to 200h, but they will drop deeper for sure. No one wants to get busted now.
