A lot of things were done badly during the first few eyars of nuclear development. We simply did not know about the implications and cosnequences. There is one remediation site closer to home near Port Hope, Ontario. That site is just on the south side of Highway 401 near Welcome/Port Hope exits. Historic nuclear waste
Im just surprised to hear any news come out Buffalo that didn't include "3 alarm fire in Cheektowaga "
NY 27 is a nimby stronghold. No,the guys running the Manhattan Project didn't understand all the ramifications of nuclear waste, but they buried it way the hell out in the woods where nobody would be close to it. The towns of Lewiston and Porter then proceeded to build out in that direction. A mile or two away they built the entire LewPort school complex K-12 and all the bus parking. They also permitted a chemical waste dump (Now full, company is asking to expand and bring in more toxic waste)right on the LOOW (Lake Ontario Ordinance Works) site. Now that the community has profited for years from the waste disposal biz,they want the Corps of Engineers to come and take all the crap somewhere else....Army Corps finds radioactive materials in soil in Niagara County
