I was just thinking about the American love of the suburub and "Gated Commnities" in particular.
I've never seen or been in a truly "gated community". I assume they build a big wall around it (perhaps a moat, or even electrified) to keep the rif raf out, then they install a couple of entrances complete with $12.00 an hour guards (maybe give them guns, or at least sticks) and they open and close electric gates to let the local residents in and out of the suburban fortress in their Escalades and bullshit like that.
Anyway, got me wondering if there are any similar such "Gated Communities" in the GTA.
Not faux gates like you see at Baby Point or High Park - but a real guard hut and you can't come in unless you're invited in.
How would that even work is another thing. Surely the city would never pay for roads and sidewalks and infrastructure if it's not a public place.
I would never want to live in a "Gated Community". I like living in the city. But I'm sure there are lots of suburbanites in Canada who would go for it.
