What was truly befitting a poorly played and officiated game, the halftime show IMO was pathetic. Mind you, this is even with having very low expectations based on the named performers.

I'll start by saying that I understand the Stones place in history but much like Steve Carlton, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett, etc., they're soiling their legacy as they continue to warble along. Songs of rebellion are pretty hard to take seriously from knighted billionaires.

Keep in mind all those "fans" in the pit during the performance were selected from an open call in the local Detroit papers with the stipulation that they be 45 years or younger. Ironic indeed.

So I ask all those who grew up with the Stones to make a passionate case for their continued existence because it's time that gov'ts around the world ban these elders from future performances to truly create a better place.

I agree with your assessment that game sucked . As for your comments about the Stones i dont think you could be more wrong.I am a big Stones fan so i probably am a little biased but how can you say they are soiling their legacy when they sell out every show , set records for money made on a tour.I have seen them 5 times on this tour alone and every show i have been to i have met people that kept saying this is my firsts Stones show and when i seen them walking out afterwords they all are walking away happy. .The new Bigger Bang albulm is probably their best work since Exile on main street. As for the halftime show i hit it right on the head amongst my friends of what they would play. Granted Start me up I can do without i hate hearing that song, as soon as i hear that song when i am attending one of their shows i head straight for the pisser. Rough Justice rocks and Satifaction was a gimme . I did like Micks comment before the song that we could have played this next one at Super Bowl 1. If anybody could hear the music before they actually took the stage when the fucking announcers were talking the sound guy for the stadium was playing Street Fighting Man before the Stones came out. I would have liked to heard that one live instead of smup.

After seeing those old farts wobbling around, I really feel old.

"dead men walking"

Wonder if they did any 'plaster casting' at the after game tea parties with 80 year old groupies.:D

My wife is a Stones fan and she loved them...other than Mr Watts (who has a great jazz career in his real life) I think they are has-beens who do a great job at milking the $$$ from the fans.

What did make them look good tho was the abysmal rendition of the US war song at the opening....that Neville guy sucks and Aretha looks like she is going to explode any moment now...and neither of them can carry a tune (albeit a hard one to carry off) and neither of them deserve any R-E-S-P-E-C-T. The best singer of both Canuck and US national anthems is the OPP guy who sings at the Sens games. Michael Burgess should sign up for a few lessons from that guy.

I used to be a Stone's fan when I was younger...had all their albums...but once they sold out "Start me up" to microsoft...didn't care about them anymore

Now I think they are sad...Keith looks like the walking dead and Micks dance moves are so dated - it's like why don't they go away and let someone else have a chance

with regards to the superbowl...isn't it kind of ironic that they play 'satisfaction'...a song with lyrics about anti-consumerism at the superbowl...the biggest commercial advertising event on tv

And that man comes on the radio
And he’s tellin’ me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination.
I can’t get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that’s what I say.

When I’m watchin’ my tv
And that man comes on to tell me
How white my shirts can be.
Well he can’t be a man ’cause he doesn’t smoke
The same cigarrettes as me

With the kind of cash they still command and make..............

Of course they are relevant.

I would have to disagree...you are associating commercial success with relevancy

If you consider Britney and Justin relevant to music...then I suppose your definition is not the same as mine

also I suppose you are alot older then i am so musically you wouldn't like bands like guided by voices

The Stones music was always grounded in American R&B and for the most part they have stayed the course (with a few excursioons into funk/disco/reggae) and have always been true to their roots -- white English boys playing their version of American blues.

To say they shouldn't be playing their stuff at an advanced age is to say that guys like BB King, Muddy Waters etc should also have quit when then reached a certain age.

As much as I don't care for them, I do admire their longevity.

The show may have sucked just because of the circumstances. It`s not a concert, it`s a football game and what can you do in 12 minutes? I`ve seen them live twice in the last 5 years and they were both incredible shows. Plus the song selection on Sunday was too predictable; if it was only 3 songs you just knew it would start with "Start Me Up" and finish with "Satisfaction" with a new song in between.

As much as I like their live shows though, their studio work lately has been abysmal. The last cool album they released was "Some Girls" and that was almost 30 years ago. Keith Richards two solo albums ("Talk Is Cheap" and "Main Offender") were infinitely better than anything the Stones have put out since then.

To answer the question...

...no. Which is why they can't sell any albums any more (because their fans sure as hell aren't dowloading Stones music from the internet, are they??)

They make a ton of money @ concerts playing the same ol' songs because people want to live / relive the experience - and the demographic they appeal to are willing to shell big bucks for that experience. But if they music WERE relevant, then those same people would be out buying the albums, right? Except they don't care about the "new" stuff - they just wanna hear 'Start Me Up' a million times over.

I used to be a Stones fans when i was younger - I own perhaps a half dozen of their CDs. But you couldn't give me a current Stones record...

Mick had a good line when introducing Satisfaction he says they could have played this at Super Bowl 1.

Props to them! There's no way my dad could be out there doing what they do.

Voodoo Lounge was a great album and a bigger bang totally rocks . I must be getting old cause i remember when my aunt took me to Altamont in 69. I have seen every tour since then and the boys might be getting older but they still blow the socks off of any new band that has come along. :D
