A friend messaged me in the morning asking me how she could go about fixing her powerbook (comp works fine) monitor is shot.
I have no clue, since I've never owned the fruit.
Anyone?

I assumed she did that - didn't tell me.
If she did, I don't think she liked her options maybe?

Ummm, I'm working on a new build actually.
Got a sweetass video card (eVGA 8800 GTS 640mb), but she already has the powerbook and wants help with her monitor.

AlCohol, no idea, but check it out.
Just found the site today. Looks good. :)

Isn't that how it always goes, you buy a card or whatever else and something new comes out.
I'm only doing this build because someone else is getting my computer for 2-D stuff. So why not get a new build and give them my current build.
I'm going to be running Intel's E6600 C2Duo (4mb).
The real bitch is getting the RAM, I'm not an overclocker or a gamer, but it seems like most RAM is made for gamers (ie - Corsairs XMS series).
Got any suggestions?

As for my friend, no word back yet.

MoBo is gonna be an asus P5B 1066 FSB.
Thanks for that PCCanada link, totally forgot about those guys.
Pretty decent prices, compared to directcanada.com (bought my video card from them today, since nobody in Toronto -that I could find- had the card).

Got any recommendations for a dvd-burner?

the monitor is made by the same parts company as some of the Dells. Depends on the age of the PowerBook and if it under Apple Care...if under Apple Care it is free and could be a few weeks for the part to come in. If not u r looking at about 900 bucks including labour.
could be other hardware.... pinched cable, card..

I guess you don't want my RAMBUS. LOL. What a waste of money.

I tend to select PC hardware based on reviews - Maximum PC, PC Magazine, Toms Hardware, etc. All seem to agree on Plextor and NEC, select Pioneer and Sony drives.

I'm a Plextor fan. I've got a 716SA and 755SA. Everybody seems to think speed is the primary consideration when selecting a burner, but I think reliability of the burn is. I read on Tom's Hardware that the burns from a Plextor last longer (all discs eventually start to lose bits). Obviously quality media is important.

Just want to mention, I'm an enthusiast, not an expert.
Ya sorry Data, I'm going for the proper (new) RAM for this mobo, but thanks.
As for the burner, I'll probably stick to the same that I have on the old build, NEC.

As for TomsHardware, apparently his reviews and what not have been biased in some way and so called "experts" haven't had good words about his site. Since he's gotten so big and he's making $ off his reviews now.

Cancuckle, I doubt she got Apple Care, otherwise she wouldn't have messaged me.
No word from her yet, so no idea what's going on now. *shrug*
