Do Ipods have a fast-forward feature? I don't mean skipping ahead to the next song, but rather skipping forward within a song.

Yes. You can either press & hold fast forward, or by using the click-wheel you can dial yourself forwards (or backward) to any point. The display has a feature that looks like this:

|------------x------------------------------|
Start.........Current........................... End

You can use the click-wheel to move the "x" to wherever you want and the player will just skip to that point directly.

Thanks. I can get it to FF by holding the button down, but how do you get the display like your diagram? Normally when a song is playing, turning the wheel alters the volume...

I have a question...how long is your battery life? I have a 20gb Ipod. The damn battery runs out quickly. less than 8hrs playing time.

Mine's about the same, maybe even less. I use it for about an hour at a time and I try to recharge it every 3-4 days. If I pushed it, I could maybe get 5-6 hours out of it.

While a song is playing, click the centre button of the wheel. Then you'll be able to use the larger wheel to dial as oppose to change volume.

Battery life depends on a lot of things but less than 8h does sound low. For some older iPods Apple announced a battery replacement program. Check Apple.com for details I guess.

I also use an external battery pack if I'm on a particularly long flight. There are lots of those available from the usual iPod accessory sources.
