How do you get it up and running in Canada?

I see them for sale by computer shops and grey market electronic stores now in Canada (you know the ones you buy sirius or xm us programming from)...

How does it work if no Canadian mobility provider has service for them?

Anyone know? links, advice and/or opinions... thanks in advance.

they work fine on rogers/fido. I have had mine for months and love it. Rogers has a 1gb dadt plan for $65, thats enough for moderate surfing. Its alot to pay for data but toys cost money.

I would tell anyone to get one, you cant compare it to BB's they are just different.

if you buy it locked you can do all the work yourself check out www.howardforums.com for every bit of info you will ever need.

I know little about cell phone stuff, but I think the IPhone you get is unlocked, or you unlock it yourself - that means don't do any firware updates! Then you pop in the SIM card you use now.

Not all the cool phone features are supported - like that visual voicemail thing.

They should work on Telus in the somewhat near future as they are switching to GSM

Actually I heard that it is Rogers that is in discussion with Apple for the Canadian rights...if true they will be the "legal" distributor in Canada.

The issue is access to iTunes vs. the music downloads that Rogers currently offers

Not exactly. The biggest issue is the amount of control over the phone Apple still has in their deal with AT&T: It's a percentage of the sales, plus a cut of the monthly bill. This fact was very hush-hush while in negotiation, but is common knowledge now, after the fact.

I would imagine Apple wants to draft a similar contract with Rogers, but this is so not Rogers' style to give up that much control over a device they sell. And since Uncle Ted's the only game in town for GSM, and the Iphone's amazing popularity, we're seeing two giants butting heads while we're denied a cool device.

at last years annual shareholders meeting for Rogers, their chief design officer hinted at working with RIM on designing their own Iphone killer- one that would allow Rogers more control over the licensing and sales cut.... could this be it?
