So, anyone know if the iPhone will be available on the Rogers network unlocked when it's released supposedly on June 29th?

Or will we have to wait a few months for that to happen?

There are reports that Apple has no intention of releasing the iphone north of the border anytime soon.

But, if someone were to get one now, they could still use it on the Rogers network, seeing as how's it's Rogers AT&T, right?

Or will someone have to hack it first?

I doubt that this will work. An AT&T locked GSM phone will not work with a Rogers GSM SIM and vice versa. All Rogers phones that I know of have been locked except when they were selling their first Palm phone (and I don't mean the Treo which originally came out by Handspring).

Also, Rogers stopped using the AT&T name after their name awhile ago.

The phones are locked, the SIM chip isn't removable, and Apple is making individual deals with phone carriers in all the countries outside the US. A Roger's spokesperson said that negotiations have not progressed very far because Apple was concentrating on the US launch. Rumour has it that Apple wants a lot of concessions that other phone manufacturers have never received before.

There is no date for the Canadian launch but now that the US launch has taken place you can expect negotiations to pick up.

The iphone that is out now is iphone 1.1. In the months to come there will be upgrades, modifications and design changes to make the iphone more durable practical and usable. The price will come down but it will always be at the high end of the market. I think it will be a staple in 5 years and "everyone" will have one. Motorola, Nokia, Sony, and all the others will have cheaper but cool devices but the iphone brand will probably endure for a long time.
