Here's another example of the 'bleeding edge' technology available to Linux users.
We already have the ability to copy/record any audio you hear on your PC with perfect digital quality.

Now Kazam allows you you copy/record any video you see on your screen then save it.

Kazam easy to use application for recording on-screen action

A program that lets you record action on-screen into one video file.
Its special features include a well designed interface, the ability
to record two audio channels and mix them. Built-in support for
volume adjustments. You can also chose between VP8 or H264 codecs.
Anyone here try/use this neat Kazam app yet?....:eyebrows:

This is the type of bleeding edge technology that gives Hollywood and RIAA Record Nazis ulcers!....:biggrin1:
You no longer have to download movies. With Kazam you can merely record any streaming video you desire.....

LOL!!!....really.....

Who said anything about stealing???....:eyebrows:

We've been able to do screenshots, saving anything shown on a PC monitor for years.
This is just the next step that allows you to do the same, by saving any video you desire.
There is a plethora of uses for Kazam all totally legal. Now you don't even have to waste bandwidth downloading anymore!....

FWIW back in the 80s we copied all the videos we wanted using VCRs. I have a library of many movies from back them that just collect dust now but still play fine. Back then there were movies worth saving, unlike the crap out today that for the most part are throw away movies. I see no reason to replicate what we did in the 80s with the poor quality movies out today....

works great , I had gtkrecordmydesktop previously and the screencaptures were coming out very blockish/pixelated until I switched over to kazam.

Here's a good review of it that pretty much sums it up nicely

The only thing I would say otherwise is that I'm not sure about using it as a tool for the purpose you have suggested. I've only used it to record short clips. I don't know how well it would work for capturing an entire feature film that's a over 1 1/2 hrs , although I do think it would probably work. If the file got too big you might need to break it into two, that's the only problem I could see as being a problem. Image quality was excellent on the few youtube videos which were captured when I was testing it.

Great report on Kazam islandman4567!...

Since Kazam is 'bleeding edge technology' ya never know how far along it has come and that clip is very informative. Read reports on Kazam and see they haven't written a version for 12.10 as yet but did for 12.04, along with older Ubuntu versions which got good reviews. Like how easily clips can be uploaded to YouTube. Using Kazam is easier than using the YouTube uploaders, or my fav app FFmpeg.

That cute Nixie chic says she has made numerous clips with no issues and assume since it's a .mkv file size should not matter. This would make it ideal for recording home movies, webcam movie sessions, or even Skype video conferencing with friends overseas!....:thumb:

One note since nixie did her video: Uploaded by nixiedoeslinux on Dec 10, 2010....
Ubuntu has added Kazam to their repositories since she made her clip.
Kazam can now be easily installed via your choice of terminal, Software Center or Synaptic Package Manager.....;)

Kazam looks like an awesome app and of course all FREE!....

Kazam is amazing!

Finally got around to installing and playing around with Kazam.
Install was easy using Synaptic Package Manager. D/L and install took <1 minute.
Then you just have to get familar with how it operates. Takes a couple minutes. It does a lot.
Anything you play or see on your monitor, can be saved as an audio/video file just as Nixie showed on the video above posted by, islandman4567...

Also played around with 'gtkrecordmydesktop' but was not happy with the results. It took awhile to encode and the picture motion was choppy.
Also tried 'recorditnow' but couldn't get it to even run.

Kazam OTOH works great!
