Anyone update to Windows 8.1? Is it safe now to update? Last time I read it was a nightmare, someone wasted 3 hours of their time.

Everyone I talk to thinks it sucks. I am now trying to install Windows 7 Pro onto a new machine with 8. Just read Amazon reviews. When I looked most thought it sucked too. It's blamed for worldwide reduction in PC sales.
Have no problem with 8.1 the little I use it.
You just hit the desktop icon and it looks and performs a lot like W7.
That said I mainly use free Linux now because IMHO both M$ and Apple suck, always out to pick your pocket!

SSD is the way to go!
Installed a 128GB SSD back in Oct 2012 and will never go back to using mechanical HDD for anything other than storage. SSDs are blazing FAST and prices are dropping. Paid 80 bucks for it back in 2012 and now that same SSD is going for 55 bucks at Newegg. It's perfect boot drive. The OEM desktop HDD is used for storage. SSD is easy to install. Came with a YouTube link that walks you through the install. On a cold start it loads Linux, ready to run in 10 seconds after the Dell splash screen shows.

Saw those small 64GB SSDs but held off wanting at least 100 GBs or more since back then had planned to dual boot Win7 and Linux. Got that 128GB SSD when prices dropped. Then decided not to even bother with W7 since it's not even needed anymore and just install Linux. Besides W7 is a bloated beast needing ~33GB of space, while Linux only needs ~5GB. Things have been awesome since!.....:thumb:
