I've been to a US hotel that gives you a keyboard , and you use the TV screen. It was a Sheraton, I believe.

I travel with my laptop a lot.

Some places that say Internet access actually just have a dial-up port available on the phone you plug into and then try to connect. Hopefully you have a modem, and you have an ISP that uses a modem connection.

The places that offer High-Speed usually offer a network connection, and then you have to make a few minor adjustments to detect the network, but if you have a networking card, this is the way to go.

I stayed at a Day's Inn in Scarboro. They have "executive" rooms that include a network connection. You just plug their network cable into your network interface card (NIC). This assumes that your PC has a NIC.

I recommend you contact the hotel and ask them about their set up.

I have a modem and a network card and a wireless set up on my laptop.

I just dont want to find extra charges when I check out....I didnt know that Bell cell phones charged so much to surf the net on their cell phones and it was a bitch to give them $95dollars for playing that millionaire game on their network.

I guess I'll call them tonight.

I also travel with laptop all over.

As ycghiydvo said, "Internet Access" usually means a very slow dial up. Sometimes a separate line, but often it ties up the one phone line you have and may cost for local calls to connect. I travel all over the U.S and Canada using surfbest when I need a dialup up but its usually the local phone lines that are old and slow. What you want to look for is "High Speed Internet" and be sure its via a Ethernet network not via the TV thing.

My favorite hotel in Radisson Mississauga which I get for about half price on priceline (anywhere from $US27-35/night. And on their Internet Floors (7th and 8th I believe) FREE high speed Internet that is faster than my cox cable at home in Phoenix. No setting changes needed just worked as soon as plug in.

At Sheridan Hamilton great room at about $US55/night priceline same fast connection but they charge just under $CDN20/day for the connection. Not to mention $7.95/day for parking.. I hate big downtown hotels with all the traffic etc and will avoid in the future

In Niagara Falls on Lundy Lane, older phone lines in street, no high speed and dial up crawls at about 11k very slow but had to watch grass grow it seemed for a week's stay.

It would be nice to start compiling a List of hotels in Toronto, and the popular other cities that have "real" high speed connections and the costs.

I stayed at the Fallsview Renaissance a while back, and asked for a high speed room, which they said they had. However, the jacuzzi room I was in didn't have it, so I had to trade off which i wanted more, and the jacuzzi with a fine SP was more important.

Another tip is to make sure that your access number to your ISP is local, or otherwise you might get triple zapped... long distance, and hotel prices and a charge from your ISP...

Thanks guys. This place is charging me $1200US for a 3 night stay and the website says the access is 'turbo high speed'...I just need to get home so I can confirm. I dont want to lug a brand new laptop if I'm going to have to go to a cafe for some access.

Btw, how far is the playboy mansion?:D

I do not bother with the Laptop anymore.Anywhere in the world i can find a Computer in the Lobby of the Hotel,or a Cafe.I used to lug that thing all over, then i was charged for the Phone calls ,then when i got back,i had to pay again.
In places as weird as La Paz ,one can find a Internet Cafe for about 0.25 cents per 30 minutes, and they serve a Coca Tea,or a Coffee.Mind you the keys are bare.ha ha.
There is no free connection.
Life is too short to hurry.

I called one of the Falls Views, and said no high speed but the Sheridan has in NF, which I confirmed with them but charge the additional daily fee the same as in Hamilton.

Also I was going a bit crazy trying to find a dial up for my traveling dialup ISP (surfbest.net) since they had no listing for Niagara Falls. But the Falls is local to St Catharines. I called the hotel to be sure since I was connected for many hours a day.

What I REALLY want to find is a high speed on Lundy in Niagara Falls, since I want to avoid the downtown area and all the tourists. There is cable in the street per a guy at computer shop near my hotel from last trip. But there may not be fiber in the street just cable. Dialup is so slow since old phone lines in street. I tried calling or stopping by the higher class hotels on Lundy and none had high speed (Amer ca?... and a few others)
