I'm getting a bit tired of having to "rent" a DSL modem from Sympatico for $10 a month when I can buy one for as little as $70. Besides that their customer service is getting worse. I've heard bad things from a number of friends regarding Rogers so they're not really an option and I'm not a fan of the cable technology anyway.

The only two DSL providers I've come across are Pathway (http://www.axxent.ca/) and Sonic (http://www.gosonic.com/). I'm sure there are others.

I was wondering if there is anyone out there is using alternative DSL providers in the GTA and what their experience was.

the only thing I know about this is...

I was a gosonic subscriber for over 12 months. DO NOT GIVE THEM A CREDIT CARD just PLEASE trust me and write a cheque. Other than the CC problems (which were fixed) I had no problem. This is back when I only had dial up, but for the price I was paying it was'nt all that bad. Their layout for email and that has changed alot lately and I think they have generally tried alot harder in the last 6 mnths. My only problem was rebilling after I cut it off. I was refunded but it's just the point of it all.

Hope it helps even a little! :D

Thanks Kara. I'll certainly keep that in mind if I decide to give them a try.

I found a couple of others if anyone is interested.

http://www.3z.ca/ - Only slightly cheaper than Sympatico even without the modem rental.
http://www.mycybernet.ne - Offers discounts with quarterly or annual payment.

Thanks Escohort. I remember seeing the thread but it got hijacked and I stopped following it. I read through it again and it did have some useful information. In particular, 3Web looks interesting.
