I can see, "raised at ?olverl Hampton Staffordshire England" It's the "?olverl" that I can't read. He would have been raised 1820-1850 time frame.

This is for a friends genealogy. Thank you in advance for your help.

It doesn't quite say Wolverhampton, although that would be a tempting solution. Wolverhampton is a large, well known suburb of the city of Birmingham. I believe it may lie in Warwick though.

It is not unlikely (and even more common for earlier birth and death places) that this village has been swallowed up by a larger urban conglomerate - this is particularly true around Birmingham which even in the early 1700's was still a Market Town.

The problem with the WolverHampton answer is that another letter is visible betweent the r and the H.

It also seems that the same symbol appears before `Wolver"as well as after. Is it possible that at that time the word `Wolver`was seperate from `Hampton`?

Could also be as simple as a misspelling or accidental tool mark made by the eng r a v e r. That used to happen a fair bit back in the day.

I thought the same thing. I assume this is from a gravestone in the US. If so, it could be that the eng r a v e r was not familiar with Wolverhampton and misspelled it.

(For some reason TERB autocensors eng**********)
