Anyone else notice Newsgroups

.....have lost quite a bit of mp3 music content recently?
Been using them for music because of the vast variety of music available there. You can find anything there, great quality and NO bogus files. Went in them yesterday and had to update all my music groups only to find some lost over 50% of their music content!
Anyone have any ideas why this happened?
I use Giganews.

The RIAA filed a lawsuit a few weeks back against Usenet.com. Idunno about Giganews, but in the US, to qualify for safe harbor protection under the DMCA, Giganews would have to remove any content cited by a DMCA takedown notice.

Whatever the situation, I find it hard to believe that newsgroups provide more content than the ed2k network. I don't know how the network has been holding up for the past two months since the big German servers went down, but it's worth looking into.

Isn't the eD2k network a p2p network similar to Kazaa where several different P2P clients support eDonkey network connections? They have all come under attack from RIAA and Hollywood interests rendering a couple pretty much useless.
Torrents and newsgroups are so far immune from attack and their content is still intact.

Over the past years I've used all three and think newsgroups have by far more content to offer than p2p or torrents.

With FIOS coming the newsgroups are just getting better than before.

You've tried all three what? Obviously not ed2k. I typically download about 250GB a year, mostly obscure movies, music, and books, and my first and last stop for content is almost always ed2k. I'd be very surprised if I could find something like Skankin' Pickle or good copies of The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser on any newsgroup. I do however see that there's a few more Tommy Roe tunes to be had.

What eD2k client do you use?

Did a quick check and came up with this and thought the RIAA was trying to shut eD2k down to.

On September 13, 2006, MetaMachine Inc., the developer of the eDonkey2000 client, agreed to pay $30 million to avoid potential copyright infringement lawsuits brought by the RIAA. In accordance with the agreement, eDonkey is to discontinue distribution of their software as well as to take measures to prevent the use of previous copies of their software for file sharing. The RIAA agreement has likely had little impact on the eD2k network as a whole; eMule had been the dominant client on the network since 2002, and it already represented over 90% of the network at the time of the agreement.[3] eDonkey was also outnumbered by aMule and Shareaza, the second- and third-ranked eD2k clients in terms of usage. The eDonkey client software that was currently available no longer works as a hard-coded check to the eDonkey2000 web site has been placed in the latest and last version of eDonkey in preparation for implementation of the agreement. Users that visit the eDonkey website, intentionally, or by simply using the latest eDonkey client, are greeted by an anti-file sharing advertisement, which includes legal and technical claims frequently made by the RIAA.

ps: The best p2p I ever used was WinMx and AudioGalaxy for music.

I use eMule. ed2k no longer has anything to do with the eDonkey2000 client or MetaMachine. Servers can be set up by anyone and as long as there are countries that don't crack down on index servers, the RIAA can't do dick about the network. There ARE a lot of fake servers though, so you need a good server list.
