Looking to put a TV in the kitchen for the SO probably a small led (22 or 24")

We have rogers and already own two of our cable boxes.

They don't even sell the hd cable boxes any more except in nfld (for 250) now they want me to spend 300+ on a nextbox?!!!?

I already have ethernet cables throughout the house is slingbox a better choice?

Ideally I want hd so I'd prefer to not just plug a coax cable into the back of the tv and not get to whole screen filled.

I use it to watch my Rogers from Toronto while I'm out at the cottage. If you want to do that, you really need top speed on the internet on both ends. If you want to use the Slingbox to watch TV around the house while connected to ethernet, it works very well (including HD) as it is as fast as possible on your own internal network (hopefully Gig). The slingbox controls one of your two existing hd cable boxes, so if you are watching it in the kitchen, then you cannot watch it in one of the other two rooms (unless they want to watch the same channel). I think it is a good choice if you want to save buying another Nextbox, plus the benefits of using it wireless, or at the office, or wherever. But again, you need excellent internet (fibe if possible as you need over 1.0 Mb upload speed for HD transmission to look good).

So do you have to buy two boxes one for each "end?" ie one in the kitchen and one hooked to a cable box?

correct 2 slingbox for 2 cable boxes. but bear in mind whatever channel you are watching on it sticks on the tv as well.

Hmmm that's a tough call about the two boxes as that brings the cost to over 200 which isn't that far off from a nextbox from rogers

Honestly,If i was in your place, I would go for Nextbox if you want watching over network, I believe it's free with certain packages for a yr, why would you buy it. And rogers high speed Internet router isn't that good, you will end by-passing it with your own router assuming you own a good one already, if not, you are looking at more expenses..

Rental fees on cable boxes add up fast. Which is why I was looking for other long term alternatives.

There would be one slingbox hooked up to your roger's box (2 slingboxes if you wanted to choose which roger's box you watched). You would still need something on the TV end (not a slingbox), traditionally a laptop.
