Did you guys see the Preakness on the weekend? Big Brown was phenominal. I've never seen any horse accelerate on the final turn, that includes Norther Dancer. He took off like a rocket and left the rest of the field eating dirt. The jockey said he had to slow him down going into the final turn and then let him coast in the stretch because he wanted to rest him for the Belmont. He never used the whip once, all he had to do was pull on the reigns gently and he was gone in a flash. WOW, what a performance, I was in awe and just watching with my mouth wide open and was speechless. I think he's going to do the Triple Crown and go down as the greatest horse in history.

I did. Did you see Big Brown last Saturday??? He seemed to be powered by nitro coming around the turn, he shot out of a cannon, it was really unbelievable, never seen anything like it, including Secretariat. Big Brown won by 5 1/2 lengths and the jockey was slowing him down to conserve him for the Belmont. I don't ever remember Secretariat having those kind of burners, but he sure was one of the most dominating horses ever. I never saw Secretariat explode from the field. Even the American announcer said in his 27 years of covering horse racing he has never seen a horse take off like that.

I must admit though, Secretariat won the Triple Crown in 1973 and probably the most dominating and powerful race I've ever seen was the Belmont when he won by 25 lengths!!!!!! Absolutely crushing the field.

I have seen many great horses. Big Brown is too good or 3 years old crop aren't.

I am still chasing a longshot to beat him in Belmont.

He looks like the best that I have seen attempted to win the crown.

Is Big Brown a male? If yes, I guess he is off to the stud farm soon. Lucky beast. (I seem to recall that Secretariat was a dud as a stud. Yes?)

Before everyone anoints Big Brown as the next Triple Crown winner, be advised that there is a 72 hour retention barn policy in place in New York where the Belmont is held. This means the horse will be under guard by the management of the track, with strict rules as to who as access to the horse.

Big Brown's trainer(his name escapes me), has had several positive drug tests in several different jurisdictions in North America. Where there's smoke there's fire.

I don't believe there's a retention barn for the Derby (Kentucky) or the Preakness (Maryland)

The Belmont has proven too much for a lot of "wonder" horses in the past.

Thanks for the link I had forgotten how dominate Secretariat was. I'll always remember after he died and 60 Minutes did their story and it came to light in the autopsy that his heart was 2.5 times the normal size for a horse. 22 lbs vs. 9 lbs. His VO2 MAX at 230 ml/min/kg was incredible considering a normal horse is around 170 ml/min/kg and an olympic 100m runner max's out at 50-60 ml/min/kg. Most experts credit this freak anatomical occurance as the reason for his amazing racing career and why none of his offspring ever accounted too much - it wasn't his breeding that did it.

So true...Big Red was freak of nature...he never threw anything that even came close to him. Much like Seabiscuit.

Although....these things sometimes skip 2 or 3 or 4 generations.....I wonder if he has any great great great grandsons somewhere?

I called it boys....

Plus, the idiot trainer Dutrow bragged that he never even kept his horse on his monthly regimen of Wynstrol (steroid) in April & May. Since Wynstrol is legal in all three Triple Crown racing jurisdictions, he may have as much admitted publicly he fixed the race. Did he and his connections cash large at the mutuels, like they did in the Queens Plate by betting other horses? If unusual betting patterns can be detected, their may very well be an investigation.

Having said all that, it may be as simple as the horse just threw in a stinker. He may have sulked since he couldn't get his way and ran up on the eventual winner twice before the first turn. I couldn't tell if the horse wears any type of restraining device on his tongue, and he may have choked. Or, he may be coming down with a lung infection, or bled.

He did not look at all sore to me....I think the quarter crack was a non-issue as well. As for being short(out of condition)....I don't think that's the case either...he wouldn't have showed that till halfway down the stretch.

Another year goes by....

....

Oh there is definitely more to this one to get out!!! The place and show prices were VERY VERY low for a dead favorite going down to defeat!!!!!!!! Apparently there was 99 million bet on the race if I remember the Toronto Star front sports page correct from this morning..............and the three racing industry information leaders, the Daily Racing Form, BRISNET, and Equibase all have the betting pools hidden for that race only if you go check their websites!!!!!!!!!!!! Something is up!!
I've watched and bet heavy on horses for years.............the place show payouts on that race should have been close to....if not more...than the 79 bucks the winner paid!!!!!!!!! And the other exotics were short too!!!!!

You could make millions more knowing your 1 to 4 horse was not going to win than having him win!!!!!!!!!

The breeding rights were already sold in his last race for 50 million......so the owners had a chance to make way more betting against him............you have a trainer with a very shady past of drugging or juicing horses and even had some action here in the Queen's Plate a couple of year's ago which led to him getting fined and suspended yet agin.....not for drugs this time (but for falsifying and hiding workouts of his horse)...............you have the detention barn where the horse probably missed getting a good dose of whatever the hell is his so called VITAMIN.......and you have a nice guy rider who has had his own troubles and who has had his whole family including a young child with an impairment thrown into the media spotlight............and you are in the soprano environment.

Okay, just visualize this, if a guy comes up to you and says throw this race or your family dies, what do you do???????

It's been several days now....and I am absolutely amazed nobody in the media is even hinting at the race being fixed. It's like the subject is like an elephant in the room.....everybody is acting like the possibility doesn't exist.

I emailed Rob Longely at the Sun after his column appeared last Monday.....asking why....so far, no response.
