I am thinking of buying a DVD Burner, as i'm starting to think of burning movies myself instead of running to pacific mall all the time.

Saw this at Futureshop
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10074614&catid=

Looks good and a good deal, but upon a search, ended up on digitaltrends.com, the reviews was not assuring at all. Ppl couldnt get the thing to work after couple weeks.

Can anyone recommend a simple to use and reliable burner, about same price range

Pretty well every LG DVD burniong product I have owned has been a blessing to me. No trouble at all, provided you have the proper software and correctly running OS in your computer. Then, there are also those 'sharp' tools in the shed who bad-mouth anything that won't burn coffee coasters as excuses for good DVD media. Anyway, just my two obswervations abour reviews and comments. Buy it, set it up correctly and use the ebst dvd media you can get, even at the bargain prices.

hope you bought one, they're sold out now...that lightscribe sounds kind of cool actually......

I didn't realize it was that cheap...that's a good deal for an external drive....

Thats what i was thinking when i first saw it, great deal. But then noticed it was sold out. Then also the bad review

shakenbake 's got a good point about the reviews though. Seeing that review about not working after couple weeks kinda made me back away there, but if i see a lightscribe out there somewhere, i just mite pick it up and try it out.

I've done a lot of movie burning and the burner I like best is from Pioneer.
You'd better get an internal unit too because the external ones can be brutally, brutally slow because you have to use them through a USB port.

Try this company, they'll install in your computer for about $10.00 or $20.00 tops. It takes just two minutes to do and their prices are a lot lower than Best Buy / Future Shop for the exact same burner.

I agree with Boffo! Also, you can install yourself. It took me 5 minutes to install one and I am an computer dummy.;)

If you have the money I would buy a Plextor drive, but pioneer is a good brand.

USB or internal you should be able to burn at the same speed. I have 1 internal and 2 USB plextor drive and I can burn 3 DVD at the same time at the same speed without problems. The only reason USB might be slow, if you're using USB 1.1 instead of USB 2.0.

I wouldn't get a DVD burner just because of the Lightscribe feature. You have to buy special Lighscribe DVD to use this feature, which cost more than normal DVD blank

LG, Pioneer

All good brands but I always ask the clerks on which gen. of each brand is returned the most.

They all leapfrog each other over time as new models come out.
