I like the shape and how thin they are. But the price tag is the same as apple range.

Are they worth it?

In this case, I'd go for the mac IF they are in the same range.

I sit corrected, go with the Samsung, better processor and double the RAM.
I'm not too familiar with the graphics cards, so maybe someone else can chime in here.

lol my 4+ year old Dell has a Core2Duo, come on apple, let's go already.

Nice innacurate chart.. MBA has been an i5 and i7 model since last summer
You and I were correct and wrong on 2 parts.
This is the article I found it from after typing "samsung laptop, macbook air" in The Googlez.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/220713/samsung_series_9_laptop_outsleeks_apples_macbook_air.html

So Samsung had the i5 first, months ahead of the air. Apple playing catch up months later? Who knows.
lol

Here's the Asus as mentioned, little cheaper and very sleek.

Read reviews and make your own decision.. There are tonnes of sites out there comparing ultrabooks against others, and against the MBA too.

That's entirely possible, lets face it Intel designed the ultrabook much like Google designed Android, purely as a reaction to the Air. Samsung and Asus etc are just putting their wrappers on it.

If you look at the hardware specs alone, the Asus really kicks Le Macs ass in the ultra category. lol

if you are considering ultra's and airs, I went with a MBA, but may trade in when the new DELL XPS Ultrabook comes out in February. That looks like one stylish paperweight!

for now, I have the MBA and notice the OS takes up a lot less space on the SSD and a lot less RAM too. Don't know if that makes a difference in large drives, but anything under 200Gb's and it could mean 100% more space on your SSD!!! with the cost of SSDs, the MBA is better priced than all of the Ultras except for the ASUS and lower performing Acers

I was actually thinking more abt macbook vs samsungs matching model.

Btw, why is samsung so expensive? I can understand apple as that is their marketing strategy.

Some folks are easily brainwashed by slick marketing into believing if it is expensive it must be better!....

My guess would be that they figure if apple can do it, why can't they do it as well.
Except, Samsung is incredibly stupid to think that their numbers would even hit 1/8th or or 1/20th the sales that the mba has. lol

Maybe they're going by the fact that their Galaxy phone line is pretty much on par with the iPhone in terms of price and they're doing INCREDIBLY well, so they think the same for the laptop numbers...............boy are they fucking wrong. lol

Samsung is possibly the world's largest chip maker with their chips being a component of almost every other manufacturers product that requires chips.

This is the reason I figured they didn't really get into the value added product business.

They've been building great value to performance TVs and appliances like microwaves for some time but I am surprised to see a laptop from them.

Like any other manufacturer they are going to be cost stingy and profit motivated, so most likely all it's components are sourced from the specialists used by other laptop manufacturers at the lowest costs.

Therefore motherboard from Taiwanese manufacturer etc.
