Apparently they are saying Xp will be lauching a 64 bitXp home program, that wont be able to be used with Intel. Any truth to this?

In the laboratory.
Novell offers a 64-bit version of Linux and presently, Microsoft offers a free, very early beta, 64-bit version of Windows.

You just know that the final release Win64 is going to be compatible with both AMD and Intel 64-bit processors.

Biggest question remains
What other then Operation Systems will be availble for 64 bit.

while gamers will jump on it. What task related software is available and at what increased costs?

the amd64 is completely 32-bit compatible.

Intel is pretty screwed by this, since the itanium flopped.

There will be OSs for the amd64. The price is very competitive, and worst
case, you have a decently priced 32-bit system.

I've been using AMD chips in 3 of my last 4 computers. I think that they're better performance and value than Intel's. The Athlon64 has the added advantage of being 64 bit compatible when 64 bit software starts to hit the market. IMHO, the Athlon64 is the way to go.

Freakshow, if posible, specify a 939 pin motherboard and dual channel memory.

Why don't you just pick up a copy of 'The Hub' and compare what the various stores would charge? That would seem a more sensible approach than asking us what we think any particular configuration would be worth.

'The Hub' is a free publication and successor to 'The Computer Paper' and 'Toronto Computes'. Usually it's to be found at computer stores and internet cafes. It contains lots of advertising.

There's also a website: www.hubcanada.ca

Are you using it for video editing a lot? I'm wondering why the 2 gigs of RAM are necessary.
