Perhaps you might go to an internet cafe and download a copy of the set-up file for malwarebytes, copy it to a cd, take it home and run it that way. I don't know if it would work but maybe worth a try.

McAfee has a nice description of this particular downloader and how it gets on your machine. I have a friend who surfs the 'net drunk, clicks on all sorts of silly things, and it's always interesting to see what he picks up on his machine. So don't surf drunk and see http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_143902.htm

Evidently McAfee works against this particular menace. By the way scouser, you shouldn't be relying on Spybot and Ad-aware but I guess you know that now.

there is a problem it seems to have over taken my browser every time I go into a search for an anti virus program and click on the link it goes elsewhere like a real estate site so I cannot Google how to remove this program by myself. Even the link you provided Jwmorrice it wont let me go to.

Well then, try the suggestion in my first post. Can't hurt and the cost is minimal.
Good luck with this.

But Ben, I think they both involve going to malwarebytes and scouser is unable to do that.

How about using a live cd version of linux to boot your system and then use this to access the web and purge the virus?

scouser, the same thing infected my computer a few days ago, it keeps on giving me these annoying popups about some antivirus scan or something and its totally bogus. Its a totally bogus program. However, I downloaded AVG for my computer and ran AVG and my computer seems to be better since then. That pop up message with the antivirus 2008 xp doesnt seem to be coming anymore. Though now that Ive said that, I'm sure the message will pop up any minute and laugh in my face.

Whatever AV you use make sure it auto-updates itself. I use Avast.
Avast used to update once or twice a day automatically when running windows.

ok so there seems to be a happy conclusion to this story, I managed to go to download Malware at work and email it to myself, installed it at home and it ran through the scan and it looks like the evil that Antivirus 2008 XP is gone, I have Avast now running but will get the Norton as my virus protection in a couple of days.

A happy ending. That's great news. Thanks for letting us know the outcome.
