Interesting detail shared by Andrew Cuomo yesterday about an ongoing program in New York testing for COVID-19 Antibodies. If you like to see for yourself, skip ahead to 3:30 on this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP5IfieXs_o&t=371s

Cole's notes:

-8,000 antibody tests done thus far.

-27% of results came back positive for antibodies.

-Highest concentration was 43% of those tested from a specific area within the Bronx.

Now before anyone goes assuming I'm making any kind of statement here - it's a small amount of tests thus far, it was somewhat focused on hard hit areas (we know New York was hard hit for virus spread overall) and antibodies does not mean (officially yet at least) immunity.

The results described in this 8,000 person sampling were simply much higher than I expected is the reason I found it interesting and thought to share the video and notes in a thread like this.

Take care everyone,
G.D.G.

Hope nobody will accuse me of hijacking your thread.

Apparently, locking down a week earlier would have saved 36,000 lives according to one study. (Not sure that locking down a week earlier would even be politically possible in a democracy. Even now people are complaining about the lockdown.)

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...tancing-lives-lost-coronavirus-lockdown-study

83% of deaths could have been prevented if the lockdown had started 2 weeks earlier.

Asia is the best real life evidence that locking down earlier rather later prevents infections and deaths.

We are still learning so much about this virus as each week goes by.

The link I gave simply shows over 2,100 of 8,000 people who didn’t know they had the virus (did not seek out a diagnostic test at least previously) did in fact have antibodies now to it.

The antibodies testing, if continued, will finally give us the hard data about the true danger of this virus.

Agreed - hence I found this interesting - with a big fat disclaimer of it being only 8,000 participants from the hard hit NY area.

When we get to a Million/Multi Million (if we every do) tested in North America, even globally now that I think of it - the Big Data farms will churn through it and give us a much better picture of how far the virus has truly spread and more accurate percentages we all watch on a daily basis.

Until then we're all following the rules and staying home as much as possible. I had to check and it's been 6 weeks since I last even thought of putting fuel in my car and I only managed to squeeze barely 30L in. I used to run 1-2 full tanks a week for over a decade so this really hit home for me.

Time to fire up the BBQ, have a great weekend everyone.

I haven't missed a day of work this year- yes, I'm in the private sector, up and about. Personally, this has been a minor inconvenience for me. I'm fortunate to work for an organization with a can do attitude that sees obstacles as an opportunity to shine and refused to panic and buy into the party line. Anyway, the preliminary figures from California and New York show that, aside from the seniors, this is much ado about nothing.
