I agree with his comments. But this administration,
and specifically Cheney and Rummy shut the door on
any bipartisan effort in this endeavor from the very
beginning. Both the State and Pentagon were excluded
from giving their observations and assistance.
Cheney doesn't compromise, the essence of bipartisanship.
His tact is to bully and cajole anyone with a different
point of view.
Tough to be bipartisan when know-it-alls are making
all the calls.
The Pentagon wanted a much larger force in Iraq.
But Rummy and Cheney wanted to do it on the
cheap. They figured they'd be out of Iraq by
December 03.
The backlash from the retired generals is consistent with
this description. I agree we have to find some way of
staying the course 'til this situation begins to restabalize.
I am against a rapid pullout, but this administration is
clueless on what it'll do next.
The surge failed its primary objective - to give the
Iraqi government time to build coalitions.
What next, OTB. What next. More of the same.
