Catholic. If they were going to overrule Roe v. Wade
it'd already happened.

The GOP doesn't want to reverse Roe. If they did
the likes of you wouldn't be their captive audience.

I'm merely point out the fact that the GOP has used
the abortion issue to its advantage by proposing they
support the unborn child and want to overrule Roe.

Fact is, the tacticians don't want to overrule Roe for
two reasons. First, it will rile up the female vote who
demand to have control over their own bodies and
self-determination. Second, if Roe is overturned the
GOP will lose one of its strongest arguments for being
the party of family values.

As far as I'm concerned in practice neither party
supports the middle class. The middle class has
been in a tail-spin since the 80's. To hell with them.

I too support the Right to Life and am opposed to abortion.
I also support a Culture of Life that goes beyond birth.
Opposition to universal health care coverage is a denial
of a Culture of Life.

There are Republicans out there that oppose abortion
and also oppose universal health care. I don't understand
how they can take both positions.

I don't have a liberal slant, pops. I do see a political
shell game going on.

Your views are consistent with Huckabee's, Pro life for the entire life....

I don't like his sales/use tax of 23%.

That's a topic worthy of discussion, if consumption or production should be taxed. I think it's purely academic as it is very unlikely to ever happen. Would put tax accountants and lawyers out of work, a worthy result if nothing else.

It won't put lawyers out of work. Clients keep on
screwing up, requiring lawyers to clean up the mess
they created.

Lawyers are like funeral directors. There'll always
be plenty of work.

I think my local convenience store already collects a consumption tax, I don't see this being much different.

McCain could well be the Republican standard bearer.

This may have been decided about a month ago by the 'powers' in the GOP.
Think this happened when McCain started to more fully support shrub policies he had previouly questioned. Seems a 'deal' was struck where McCain was told, if you carry on shrub policy, you will get the nomination by default....

Prior to this 'deal', I felt Rudy would get the GOP nod but all the baggage Rudy carries may have led to Rudy being dumped for a safer choice, McCain.

That would be a huge paperwork burden for the retailers.
Its one thing to collect sales tax, its another to become
a collecting agency for the Treasury.

And how large will the federal beaurocracy be to audit
those collections.

Remember, every retailer will be a tax collector. That's a
lot of collectors to keep in line.

Every retailer is already a tax collector (except in a few states), and there would be no need to for the massive income tax infrastructure. I think you're clearly on the wrong end of this argument. There are sensible arguments against a consumption tax but a burden on retails isn't one of them.

One of the biggest problems in Ohio are vendors
who don't submit sales tax collections. And that's
at 7%. Now the same vendor is collecting 30%.
Too much of a risk and temptation.

Yep, one of the main (largely unspoken) reasons for introducing a GST
(value added tax invented by Marx) is that it has the effect of reducing
the "hidden economy". Every business must report input and output, so the
system is somewhat self-policing.

Timing is everything is politics. JFK was considered for VP to run on Adlai Stevenson's presidential ticket and came in second. It might have saved his career, as Eisenhower won easily. JFK was still too raw to assume even the number #2 job. I have the same feeling about Obama. He strikes me as a very capable politician, but I think he has rushed his moment in history. I'd be more enthusiastic if he had a bit more experience under his belt.
