There's also a rabbit disease that came out of China, highly contagious if you're a rabbit, with close to a 100% death rate. Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Type 2. It's in North America now. Does not affect humans at this point.

Google "A new viral outbreak is killing rabbits" for the recent
N.Y. Times article.

Sure hope this virus doesn't mutate into something that infects humans...

My friend in China sent me a messsge this morning saying that Beijing is shut down and in her large city in the south they have to wear masks in public. And with it being extremely hot there, it is uncomfortable for her. That just put my trip to China on hold till who knows when and her visit to Canada, the same thing.

From what I heard, parts of city were locked down. It wouldn't surprise me though if the cordon has been widened.

I think it is very difficult for any large country with significant infections to keep the virus completely under wraps. The best hope is to keep the vulnerable isolated and keep preaching for masks and social distancing. The concern that air conditioning could be spreading the virus scares the shit out of me.

We're lucky that Ebola and some other vicious diseases such as Marburg haven't come here yet from Africa.

Of course there's a huge difference in the wealth and mobilty between the Africans usually infected, their travel frequency, and as far as I know the lack of an "African New Year", so that North American Africans do not go back "home" annually, like the Chinese often do, to visit their families, and to celebrate, therebye exporting and importing viruses both ways.

Everything is now made in China basically.
They are just showing their gratitude to rich capitalists all over the world who have invested in China by directing their capital and contracts there over the years.
Let's not forget the materialistic and insatiable consumers that like cheap.

So true, Walmart would go bankrupt without the PRC.

Rabbits, like humans, tend to run amok. Nature has put checks on them as a culling mechanism, like it's doing to humans. RHD is a fairly recent virus. Before that there was Tularemia which can also be transmitted to humans. Lucky for us, it's very slow moving. Unless someone decides to skin a rabbit with a gash on his/her hand, you won't get it.
