I am almost afraid to ask, but ask I must. What is the law in Toronto on keeping animals (chickens, pigeons, pigs and the usual cats and dogs) and/or hanging clothes on an outdoor clothesline in one's backyard?

Nice Dens
Rock, the best way to extract revenge is to steal the chickens and BBQ them in your backyard.

I was a Cruelty Agent for the SPCA years ago. I had a case much like this. It's illegal. Please call them.
Very delicate situation. He's a very nice guy (even offered to "dispose" of that raccoon in my garage) but he thinks he lives on a farm or back in the "old country".

The animal situation in this city has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. CTV reported that another snake has gone missing (last year it was a King Cobra). Please make sure to check your toilet before you take a dump.

Can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to have a pet chicken. So long as they are properly cared for.

Trying to use them as a source of food might run you afoul of something.

A good laying hen will provide you with about 6 eggs per week, and will not make much noise at all. Their poop will compost very well into your garden, and in the fall you can have a nice roasted chicken. I'd recommend the Barred Plymouth Rock variety.. its a great dual purpose bird.

If you are keeping a chicken or two in your backyard in the city, you may run afoul (afowl?) of local bylaws, but if you are discrete and once in a while give your neighbor a few eggs...

Don't bother with a rooster, they are very similar to us.. make a lot of noise and fuck anything in sight...

It is against the law that's why, and I hope it stays that way.

We don't (as a society) don't have a perfect record when it comes to giving proper care to cats and dogs . we shouldn't add more animals to that list. Our shelters are enough problems as it is right now.

Not quite, you cannot put chicken manure directly into the garden, it is what is known as a "hot" manure and must be aged first. And because of the way chickens defecate, the manure is mixed with urine which creates a VERY STRONG ODOUR until it is composted.

burt-oh-my!

Chickens create a god-awful stench if you dont clean their crap up reasonably fast, and they attract a ton of flies. Also attract critters like raccoons.
