Android overtakes iOS in mobile app downloads

it was only a matter of time.

For the second quarter, growth in iPhone shipments fell to 9 percent from 15 percent in the first quarter, while Android's shipment growth rose to 36 percent from 20 percent. Android's total install base now outweighs that of iOS by a factor of 2.4 to 1, ABI said, a ratio that will reach 3 to 1 by 2016.

But Android's open-source strategy is also driving app downloads, according to ABI
.

I didn't say that, I said they weren't taking market share away from Apple... simple math you've yet to grasp...

How's that Canadian company doing... LMAO... on it's way to NORTEL itself.

But they are stealing potential FUTURE market from Apple aren`t they?
With Android being the big contender to Apple.

As for RIM, dunno and don`t care.
Your mentality for an adult is incredibly childish, money and toy obsessed, "my phone is better than your phone", "I know rich people", "I got my phone before its official release (or whatever it is you bragged on about)"....lol

But you certainly like Canadian pussy don`t you Mr. Traveling business man of faith with a S/O. ;)

old news from the 2nd quarter.... apple sales dropped because of the expected new iphone release. now, I love my android phone but even I can see this is a biased and garbage article.

In all honesty, they're both evil companies and unfortunately the other options are just as evil, whether it's MS or RIM.

How can you say that, when it's clear as day.....

knowing that people waiting for new iPhones was a contributor to that, but clearly, Android took big chunks from both Rim and Apple in that quarter. Apple will show gains next quarter, but so will Android.

Who really cares, neither of them are worth acting like a fanboy over. I use Android and will continue to, but google is shady and their holier than thou attitude talking like they are the victim when getting sued for using things like java without licensing is shitty.

Shipment numbers? As in devices shipped to retailers, sitting on their shelves?

How about the numbers of devices purchased?

It's an old discussion that Cobster long ago lost but he keeps hanging on to it (like a Vietnam vet who never got over the beat), Apple market share has been pretty stable, Android has won most of it's share from RIM and Nokia.... the basic math of that was hard for the iHater to understand both because his math skills are limited and he's blinded by his bias.

Doesn't anyone realize , Android is used by numerous lines of phones, where iOS is one by one single brand? I hope Android would start to bit into the market. It would be a sad day if it couldn't. Now will it continue?

Are we talking total apps or total downloads?

This is the key paragraph:

"Despite leading in total mobile application downloads, Android's app downloads per user still lag behind Apple's by 2-to-1," Dan Shey, ABI's practice director for mobile services, said in a statement. "Apple's superior monetization policies attracted good developers within its ranks, thus creating a better catalog of apps and customer experience."

This is really a bogus red herring, Apple sales talking point!

Linux has without a doubt the MOST apps of all, available in several universal repositories, all FREE of course. However in the real world most folks only use a couple dozen of their fav apps...:eyebrows:

It's just a repeat of history. Android is doing to apple EXACTLY what windows did to it about 20 years ago...
