Android or Apple?

Do you prefer Android or Apple smartphones?

No smart assed responses please, this is a straight up question about who you think will dominate the largest market share in the coming year

Doesn't matter which is better Apple or Android, but it's clear Apple is not just a product line, but it's also a cult, look at how many milliions of their new phones then sold in a matter of days.

Well then it's Apple. They have a 60 or 70% market share in North America and that isn't going to move dramatically in a one year time frame. On a worldwide basis there are more Android phones sold I believe and Samsung is the number one seller. Second in North America but a distant second after Apple although I think they are gaining a little bit of ground.

Thats 2 different questions.
But i prefer Android, I'm very familiar with the system, it's much more open and less restrictive than Apple. There's just so many more capabilities without "jailbreaking" which apple needs in order to do certain things and it's a major pain in the ass. The learning curve is higher though for android. I also just like how free you are with android you can customize home screens and create widgets ie you can have a box on your screen showing facebook/twitter updates for friends, stock quotes, daily planner all without opening the app. I can use a FREE app to download any song FOR FREE, then listen to it as if i have bought the MP3, then if i want my friend to listen to it i can send it to him via wifi, bluetooth, plug both phones into a computer then drag from my drive/folder to his drive/folder, or i can take my MEMORY CARD out of my phone and put it into his. Ask an apple user how they would preform the same task.

Largest market share will be android and has been from awhile. Android has the most people using it's software by a mile and a half. But apple is the company that pumps out the most phones.

Android is found on more smartphones than IOS by far. But I believe, Apple is the #1 manufacturer, but it's hard to say. IOS sales are all funnelled into one phone and one variant the Apple Iphone. Android is spread over Many different manufactures and many more variants.

Ya with only a 5% market share, RIM isn't even part of this equasion. The company I work for wants to develop some apps and I am curious which phone will sell more apps

If you want gps, then android is the best solution.

I think if you have other Apple products like the iPad or Apple TV it makes a lot of sense to get the iPhone.

I love my iphone for my personal phone. Android is pretty good too, but I don't think I'll switch.

Android is still the most popular smartphone operating system in the United States by a wide margin, as comScore has once again found that Android was on more than half of all active smartphones in the U.S during the three months ending in May. In all, Android accounted for just under 51% of all active U.S. smartphones in over the three-month period, followed by Apple’s iOS at just under 32%, RIM’s BlackBerry OS at 11.4% and Microsoft’s Windows Phone at 4%. The new numbers are mostly unchanged since comScore last measured mobile OS market share over the three-month period ending in February 2012, as iOS saw an increase of 1.7% since that period while BlackBerry OS saw a decline of 2%. As far as original equipment manufacturers go, Samsung phones accounted for 25.7% of active U.S. smartphones, followed by LG at 19.1% and Apple at 15%

UPDATE:the period ending Aug 31 Android rose to 52.6% and Apple rose to 34.3% in the USA



As far as the question goes.... Don't rule out Windows phone 8, but ideally check out all the phones together and buy the one you like the most. The top of the line phones are all pretty good.

If you are already in the Apple ecosystem with Mac and itunes etc then you should go Apple
other than that the other phones offer more choice and flexibility

Not as bad as you would think.

I got fed up with jailbreaking my iphone to get software I wanted and after looking at the Galaxy S 3 specs, then a friends phone - I made the jump. I had my iphone still plugged in (I use it as an ipod) when I loaded Kies (Samsung version like iTunes) for my Galaxy S 3. The software detected my tunes and asked if I wanted them moved.

I am amazed that Apple hasn't run out of a little steam as myself and three friends were all iPhone users and we all switched to Android (3 Galaxy & 1 Nexas). Unless Apple changes their Nazi approach to App software - I can't see myself returning but I will be watching the Windows 8 with interest.

Android units outsells Apple units by millions worldwide. Guess the market has spoken!
I have neither but if I decide to get one it would be an Android unit. I refuse to submit to being controlled by the proprietary Apple ecosystem telling me what MUST be done to use their iStuff....

i prefer a droid, has a bigger screen, more durable and i find it to be just superior phone. the downside to the droid is the battery life. the razr maxx i got is the best as far as i know for battery life and if i have the data turned off i can go 2 days without charging it but if i got data on i charge it every day which really isn't a big deal for me cuz i am in a truck all day and i just plug it in and toss it on the seat beside me.

apple can do what a droid does but they will charge you for the apple logo on the back. apple actually just got features on their newest phone that droid has had for a few years now. if you want people to like you based on what kind of phone you have get the apple. if you want people to not care about what phone you have and like you as a person get a droid.

except the new iphone won't plug into the old istuff. changed the connector so now you have to buy an adapter that can cost between 35-70$.

After playing around for a good while with the Galaxy S3 yesterday I really like the Android Jelly Bean OS. Very smooth. Only gripe I have with Android is security and virus issues. Plus the ecosystem is not like Apple iOS. I like Apple iOS for the security, ease of use, the ecosystem and its simplicity. I admit right now that I don't have an Android or Apple phone. I have the iPod Touch 4th Gen and it has been more than enough. I mainly use it to check e-mail, read books and use it for Baccarat testing engine. Actually the Baccarat testing engine is the reason I picked Apple iOS over Android. The Baccarat programs on iOS are way ahead over Android since it seems like developers are focusing more with Apple. If Android cleans up its security and fragmentation issues and more developers are creating better apps enhancing the ecosystem then I would pick Android. Right now I am with Apple iOS.

Is this a crowdsourcing strategy to decide which to go long on?

Plan on both Android and Apple for mainstream apps for the next few years if you are doing a consumer-focused app, pus a nice HTML5 site to catch others.

Can't ignore RIM if you are going for a corporate app.
