Not that anyone really cares about M$ in the smartphone space but I found this very interesting. Note to Apple haters, Apple is not mentioned, you can leave your pitch forks at home...

An "interesting" quote:

It's this gap, among other things, that leads none other than Sundar Pichai, who oversees Android at Google, to say that he doesn't view phones such as the Amazon Fire as "Android Devices." He categorizes most of the phones in China as being "'Android open source' rather than Android."

Microsoft's arrogance is finally biting them in the butt. They have always had the "if we build it they will come attitude". They have built a business empire on buggy software and forced people to think that its normal. The smartphone market is not like the PC market 30 years ago. There are so many choices out there, and each one is arguably better than the Windows Phone. Microsoft cant just sit back anymore and expect people to be happy with their crap.

They're only saving grace is the same thing that makes Windows 8 such a crappy desktop OS. They have tried ti make the user experience the same across the board of MS powered devices. Even though I am not a fan of this approach, it might work.

As for apps, I predict that MS will probably just command their army of developers to write native Metro apps. There is no need for them to adopt Android. In their typical arrogance, they will write their apps, and expect people to buy them. Will it work? We'll see.
There is massive innovation in the apps market, I don't see M$ as an innovative company, the entire history is exploiting a monopoly, not building great stuff.

Like Blackberry (who has capitulated to Android), they are a dead man walking in the smartphone space....

I don't view it as capitulating to Android, Blackberry either climbs on board and rides the wave or drowns in it. They still have their own O/S, maybe they can hang on and end up with an Android plus experience. The Android (even iOS if it was available) decision is the first start to staying afloat and it seems to be paying off for them. I can't see myself giving up screen real estate for a keyboard so I'm not sure if I would leap that direction (it would be full circle).

the hobby needs more capitalism
I like Microsoft's take on postpc mobile. Shame Windows Phone didn't take off.

Is Blackberry support GMS or ASOP (difference is in the article), not that it matters much, what good is an OS without an ecosystem? That, and they are a floater anyway.... See your IBM thread.
