In a few weeks I will have a weekend layover in Amsterdam. It has been many years since I have actually had some time to myself there so am looking for suggestions. I've been the Red Light District route, and depending on the weather may wander the alleys for old time's sake...but I am looking for something different.
VeryBadBoy....or others...any guidance for either SPs or MPs and also a reference on a good centrally located hotel would be helpful.
Thanks guys
Cheers

Found an earlier thread that provides some info.
I've done the red light district and sat through one of the sex shows being fondled by a south east Asian lass....not sure I want to do that again so really looking for alternatives.
Plan on spending the days in the museums...but the nights are meant for...

In a very dark place
Amsterdam is a toughie.

After being there and doing the RLD numerous times you get kind of jaded. Once the been there done that project is complete its really just another euro city filled with very odd people.

If i didn't go back there for a long time it won't be any loss.

Don't forget the frites met sauce!

Seriously, need to find something for the night. Maybe I should take someone from here for entertainment!
But I do like Dutch girls...like Morgan :D

Found this with a little exploration...sounds like it might be worth a visit. Has anyone tried this place?

Massage

Vienna Massage
Rijnstraat 224,
tel: 020-612-3444.

We're not sure why they include "massage" in their name, as they most certainly fall into the "prive" category. But massage is an option, however. There used to be two Vienna's, but the other one at Middenweg was sold off. This Vienna is one of the few clubs in Amsterdam that is not within walking distance from the city center. The simplest way of getting there is to take tram 25 towards President Kennedylaan, all the way to the last station. The white door of Vienna Massage is very discrete (just a small gold plate) and easy to miss. So remember the street name and door number. It is close to the RAI conference center if you would be using the trade fair excuse for a business trip to Amsterdam. Escort service is also available.

While few clubs in Amsterdam grasp the concept of "regular"
massage and "intimate" massage, both Love Club 21 and Vienna do, even if they tend to be more "sexually" oriented. The rooms are large enough, with nice interiors, spotlessly clean and either with shower or bath. There are 7 rooms, and you would find 4-7 girls working there, from 10am-11pm. A nice extra is the cigar on your way out, along with a welcome drink while you select a girl. The host(s) and owner are nice and polite, and make you feel at ease. You can pay with major credit cards (10% surcharge) and Dutch PIN (no surcharge). The menu of services is extensive, and range from "regular" massage, to the all inclusive (massage, body to body massage, shower together with the girl and "intimate") .Extensions for all menu items except the "regular" massage can be bought in 15 minute increments of time, which makes Vienna attractive for long-term encounters. The menu is fairly comprehensive, with some girls offering SM. Unfortunately (read fortunately!) we have to confess never having tried that, but we've always left Vienna with a big smile. Stay away from the chicks

- too clinical in approach. (Just my opinion.)

Besides, there is so much to do in Amsterdam, you can do without chicks for while.

The museums are more than just first rate. You'll be accessing the world's greatest collection of Vermeer - that alone makes the trip. Add in the Rembrandts (and visit Rembrandt's house), and of course, Van Gogh.

Of course there's the Hals, Breughel's etc. too. I believe you'll find a Bosch as well (going by memory now).

Of course, if you're man enough, you can visit Ann Frank house too. Don't see how you can visit a chick after that anyway.

Been away the past couple of weeks on business .... yes my inbox is no longer full ... so send away but I will be gone by Monday once again and my time is limited.

In regards to Amsterdam, it has been more than a few years since I have hobbied there ... the turnover within the RLD is high so any advice I would have had would be dated by now.

There are many hotels, the question is the how much are you willing to spend and would you consider the many "Zimmers" that are available. Availability is also a concern and that depends on when you are going as well. Best thing to do is search on Google or get your travel agent to set up a cheaper package deal.

Thanks TQM and VBB

The main reason that I am stopping over in Amsterdam is to visit the museums... as it has been too long since I have feasted my eyes on those magnificent Rembrants, Van Goghs etc.
However, that is in the daytime...and I have two evenings to kill, so that is why I'm looking for the nightlife option.
I found a hotel near the museums and not far off the Kalverstraat which takes you to the Dam...which takes you to the RDL...although I have little interest in the swinging doors of the window shops. That is why I am looking for alternatives.
Thanks for all your inputs.

Your welcome.

When you get there you are going to see that starting next year and into 2010 there is going to be a large collection of works on display from several large galleries so you may wish to go again.
