Are Americans allowed to travel to Cuba if they fly there from Canada?

If yes, even if they present US passports after touching down in Cuba??

I don't think an Airline flying from Canada would allow an American on a flight to Cuba.

If somehow an American got on a flight to Cuba, I believe they would not be permitted to stay.

If an Americans with a passport stamp from Cuba would also have some problems with reentry to the USA.

Cuba will not stamp the passport if you ask them not to. Americans I know have flown to cuba from montreal and back without any problems.

Cuba wants their money and as long as they are booked to a resort, they dont care.
Interesting. If your an American and you run into some problems you would have a lot of explaining to do.

So if they returned to the US and told customs they'd been to cuba, what would customs do? They can't prevent a citizen from entering the country. The only thing they could do is potentially bring some criminal charge. Is there such a charge, or fine, or some such.

Yes there is.

An American can fly to Cuba, just not from the USA. There have been reports that Canadian airlines share flight manifests with US Customs though so upon your reentry you have some explaining to do. The biggest hurdle is getting back into the USA undetected.

If you get caught the fine is about $7500.

Americans travel to Cuba all the time. The Cubans don't have issues with Americans, only their gov't. The American gov't tries to discourage it's citizens from going there.

On my last trip to Cuba I met an American from Chicago scouting out the Playa del Esta area for a pizza parlour location he planned to open once Castro goes and relations "normalize"

American yaughts were in the harbour being serviced by cheap Cuban labour.

As long as American customs does not see a Cuban stamp on the American passport then things are ok.

Fly from Canada or Mexico.

The last 5 or 6 times I've been there they haven't stamped my passport. That's without asking since it makes no difference to me. I've seen Americans there many times. The Cubans don't care even if they're not booked into a resort.

That is minimum. People have been known to get fines up to $50000. However you have to be pretty careless to get busted. Basically any semi-well thought alibi will be enough. Cuba can care less. They get a kick out of taking American dollars and seeing Americans not even respect their own laws. It is the American gov't that cares.

If the US were ever to lift the embargo and sanctions the Cuban govt. would be in real trouble. They've been blaming all their problems on the US for awhile, and their population believe that's why they are suffering. If the embargo is lifted, the command economy STILL won't work, and the govt. in Cuba will have a lil' bit of 'splainin to do to angry Cubans who won't understand why they have to be poor if there's no embargo.

The Cuban govt. used to blame its problems on trade with imperialist US, and now it blames its problems on not being able to trade with the imperialist US, and the problems have always been and will always be that communist economies just don't work.

Ditto.

If caught, depends on U.S. customs. Few cases I heard search bags for cigars/brooze & bit of stern talk.

News report suggests few airlines like AA are lobbying U.S., if not flying already, small planes from Miami. Mostly to reunited Cuban ex-pats with family. It's growing market in Florida. U.S. turning blind eye under this circumstance.

Here's what you do. Go down to Miami, go out on the beach, wait til you see a raft with a load of sunburnt hungry people on it. Give them $20 for it, turn it around and start paddling.

Unless the country has a vast supply of natural resources. Then it is easier to support many socialist programs. But without those natural resources, it is more difficult.
