Am I the only one who finds this election boring so far?

Honestly, I just haven't been able to get into it.

And I'm not saying that just to be cynical. I normally enjoy politics. For example, I was really into last year's municipal elections, particularly the race for the mayor's job in Toronto.

But this current federal election just isn't doing it for me.

Maybe it's because I just don't think there's much at stake.

The politicos always try to sell any election as one of the most important elections of our time. In reality, this one seems like one of the least important. I suspect the country will continue in the same direction regardless of the outcome.

Elections don't trule begin, imo, until we have the first real exposure to the Candidates, right now here in Toronto we hear/read bits and pieces of Candidates being in this province, or a territory, or so other city.

Once a Candidate hits Toronto, and gets in the News, the feeling starts to change, that or a Debate is televised, whichever comes first.

This is truly a boring election, there is no real "big election issue". Its an ego contest between Harper and Iggy, that's going to end in the same result we have now. The only difference will be, is that the day after the election, Bob Rae will be the new interim Liberal leader, and Harper will be second guessing his own future.

So are you saying it's not necessary or are you going to offer some suggestion how to spice it up?

what I'm saying is that there is no big barn burner of an issue as was free trade or NAFTA, or the type of economic downturn like we had at the end of the Mulroney years with the high unemployment and high interest etc. This is like I said earlier an election that will only serve to feed the egos of the respective party leaders. Lets face it, what's first and foremost on the minds of people in this country? Its their jobs and the state of the real economy as it pertains to their everyday lives, which translates to keeping inflation in check which in turn keeps interest rates low and they can afford to buy homes and borrow money to fill these homes and buy other big ticket items like cars. These are the real issues, not contempt of parliament, jet fighters, Helena Gerguis, Bev Oda etc. or any other one of these procedural distractions they put on for the benefit of the media. Do I think this election is necessary? no I do not, we could have held out until this parliament ran out next year.

I also think part of it is the opposotion over the last few years, when attacking the government , time and time again seemed to pick things people didn't really care about and they've done it so much that any complaint they make now, regradless of how valid, come off as crying wolf.
