Is there an alternative site? I am looking at getting a new car soon and the website fucking sucks. It stalls or refreshes the page or simply comes up with an error while reading the specs.

Is the app better to use? I can’t shop for a car when every entry doesn’t allow me to view the page or pics properly.

Once you find a car you like, consider using a non profit like APA or Car Help Canada to avoid all the haggling nonsense.

Buy something with low KM off a senior who's been the only owner through Kijiji or FB marketplace. Most keep their maintenance records.

Try using the app from a phone.

I have bought three used cars via Haldimand Motors over the years.
Web site was good, refreshed often. And not a lot of friction as the saleman pressure.
Pick the cars you want to test drive, they copy your d/l, and hand you a handful of keys.

You pick. they tell you what they need to do to safety it, what the price is, and when they can have the car for you.

So you do the trip down Hwy 20 twice, but it worked very well for me.
I paid cash, so do not have experiece with them offering financing.

I'm not looking for financing. I will purchase the car outright.

Thanks for the info.

I understand your points about glitchiness and navigation, but in terms of pure content they're hard to beat....good source for new, CPO's, dealer versus, private. And the filters work pretty well when I use it ie. brand, model, year, rank by price, mileage, etc. I don't think there is anything comparable to their data content and how they manage it.

And if I find something really interesting, I click on the dealer site for more details.

What make and model interests you?
Toyota Highlander. 2022 or newer. Maybe 2021 but no older then that. I need the third row for extra truck space for travelling. As well as a full back seat.

Or I may go back to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Same reason. Full back seat and large truck space. And same years.

Looking for under 50k if I can get it. No more then 75K tops.

That is why it is at the top of my list. I am not in a rush to buy so if it takes me a 6months or a year even, to get exactly what I want - then that is cool.

Use Auto Trader as a reference but deal directly with a dealership. That's what I've done and I've had good success. The only downside is there's not as much of a chance to barter down the price especially for Toyota because most don't have the inventory they once had. Also check before you buy if it's gas or a hybrid. I ended up buying a Camry a year ahead of schedule because 2024 was the last year they made gas only Camrys because starting in 2025 Camrys are hybrid only.
A second option is look in areas just outside of where you live because that may provide more options for finding what you want.

Good luck in you Highlander hunt.

For those wondering - use the auto trader app. The site is shit. The app is working great.

@Toke - thanks for tip.

That is what I do. I deal with the dealership. Not to worried about bartering price. Auto traders is usually good at listing great deals already.

The Highlander has 4-5 gas powered models for every year I'm looking into. I do not want a hybrid. So I already checked into that.

There will not be much selection in Durham so I will be going out of area in my search. I'll just get a friend to drive me on pick up day.

I think that's a good plan. Highlanders typically have high use owners, but every once and while you find one that's traded in with low mileage. With tools like CarFax you can check vehicle history. I once bought a CPO car with more than one owner, and I asked the dealer (Audi) to run me a print out of every time that car had been services in the last 3 years. I was checking for lemons and he confirmed it was clean. There's a ton of good information out there, and you have time on your side.

Toyota = Good
Jeep = Bad

Other than that, good luck on your search.

I will try the app as well. The functionality of the website sucks.
I use the app. It works pretty well on Android, though it does have occasional image issues. :rolleyes:

If you're good with the filtering it's pretty efficient.

I used Clutch to get my most recent car. Was a pretty good experience and their price was on par with the lowest I could find from other dealerships.
