Was talking to a friend this weekend about air conditioning. I told him I set it at 77. He sets his at 72. But it seems we spend about the same per month. Curious, does it matter what you set it at. Do we get charged anyways, does the meter reading really make a difference. Looking forward to hear some feedback.

I imagine your air conditioning units themselves might also play a part in your varied bills, unless you have the exact same one. Central air conditioners are rated according to their seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER). The higher the SEER, the more efficient the air conditioner, the lower the energy consumption and the lower the bill - in theory. Their general age and level of maintenance might also be a factor. But what do I know...I'm no expert.
Also could add the quality of insulation (esp. windows and door seals) --> time your AC is on to keep the desired temp.

Your friend may have a more efficient unit, or maybe his house is better insulated.
