AIDS - How hard is it to get it?

Hi guys, just thought I'd share some info on HIV/AIDS. These are facts I have found through various websites.

Did you know that the odds of getting hiv by having intercourse with someone who is not in a high-risk group (homosexuals, drug users) is about 1 in 50 million. To put this number in perspective, the odds of someone in your household getting injured in a bubblebath is 1 in 1.3 million, and the odds of getting struck by lightning is 1 in 600,000. If you don't use a condom, you are ten times more likely to catch the virus: 1 in 5 million.

Getting HIV from receiving oral sex is virtually impossible. However, giving it is significantly riskier, especially if your partner swallows the ejaculate, or if a women is menstruating.

If you have unprotected sex with an HIV positive person 500 times, the odds of getting hiv is 2/3.

Anal sex is significanly riskier than vaginal sex, as it is more rigorous, and blood from tearing of the tissue makes it easier for the virus to enter your system.

The bottom line is this:

1)Always use a condom when having sex: the odds of getting hiv are cut ten-fold.

2)Receiving oral sex without a condom poses very little risk for those who receive. Just like with kissing, the only thing you get is saliva, which does not contain the virus.

3)NEVER engage in anal sex without a condom. EVER. Unless you want to get hiv.

Here is one of the sites I got my info from

Have fun, but play it safe, guys. 3 minutes of ecstasy is not worth a lifetime of suffering.

Your link is dated 1988, shinyam! There's been a little research done since then!

Unprotected vaginal sex has a base rate transmission probability of about 1/1000, which apples to both male-to-female and female-to-male transmission.

However:

- transmission risk is about eight times higher in the first five months of infection, about 1/125

- a man's circumcision greatly reduces his chances of receiving HIV through unprotected vaginal sex.

There's some discussion and references of this topic here

You forgot to add SP's in your high risk group. I am in the business but also a realist ... lets face it... we are "engaging" in some pretty risky behaviour. Covered or not, nothing is completely safe. Times that by the numbers of partners/client and encounters and we too, are at risk.

You will not get AIDS/HIV from a (female) SP. The virus is only passed one way in hetrosexual sex, from male to female. So, SPs are at risk when having unprotected sex, but only bareback FS and greek. The client isn't at risk.

Having said, there are lots of other STDs out there, which may not be fatal but a pain in the ass (so to speak) if you catch one.

Oh, I would LOVE to know the authority you use for this (so called) information. Can you dig up the source for us?

"...there is no evidence worldwide, that HIV has been transmitted by saliva alone."

Source: Rick Sowadsky MSPH CDS - NV AIDS Hotline

"HIV has been found in saliva and tears in only minute quantities from some AIDS patients. It is important to understand that finding a small amount of HIV in a body fluid does not necessarily mean that HIV can be transmitted by that body fluid. HIV has not been recovered from the sweat of HIV-infected persons. Contact with saliva, tears, or sweat has never been shown to result in transmission of HIV. "

That's not the point, is it? How do you figure it gets to the stomach, anyway? Teleportation?

Safe sex tips: How you can prevent getting or passing-on HIV and other STDs

During oral sex, don’t get semen, blood or vaginal fluid in your mouth, since there is a risk (low) of picking up HIV and hepatitis B this way. Using a condom prevents spreading HIV and other STDs from oral sex.

It is also advisable not to perform oral sex within two hours of flossing or brushing your teeth, since these activities could cause cuts in the gums, providing entry points for HIV.

Similarly, you should be careful after recent dental surgery, or if you have problems with bleeding gums or other sores in your mouth. If you’re worried because someone has performed oral sex on you, washing and urinating may help, as noted above.

Performing oral sex may also expose you to hepatitis A and parasites. The virus can be present anywhere in the anal area or on fingers which have touched the anus of an infected person.

A little off topic but still regarding STD transmission....why do so many clients seem to think that DATY is acceptable at an MP? It would seem to me that a client would be a bit shocked if an MPA or SP would do a BBBJ, but so many clients seem to want to do DATY with no protection and don't seem to realize the potential to catch or give an STD. Same goes for playing with or touching themselves "down there" and then wanting to play with the MPA. Myself, I like to know that the client has disinfected their hands before touching me, and that they only play with their hands. My health is important and allows me to earn a living doing something I enjoy.

So how do you explain the AIDS epodemic in Africa. Surely they are not all gay and or IV drug users.
