I look out of my office window in Mississauga and see an office building down the street that has been converted to a modest sized data centre.

The rest of the buildings on the street have pad mount power transformers to deliver their power.
Those can be as large as 1000kVA. Like for my 11 storey tower.

This thing has 4 cubicles of metal clad switchgear at the curb.
Meaning they have at least 2 transformers somewhere in the building to deliver enough power.
So more than 1000kVA for a 3 storey building in a smaller floor plate than where I work.

The roof is covered in air conditioners.

There is a creek side walking trail that goes past it. Just the 6' steel stake fence keeps you from getting too close.
The vacant former ground level lunch room, left over from when folks worked in this builiding in a prior incarnation looks really errie.

And Ontario taxpayers r subsidizing the electricity rates they pay to their electricity provider.
