If true, a smart move on Ahmadinejad's part.
The U.S. really should stop being so lead-footed with this fellow and start engaging in some one-upmanship with him.
I mean, really, the U.S. has a stated goal of getting Iranian cooperation on Iraq. At the very least, Rice should be meeting with him.
It doesn't matter that he's a Holocaust denier. The U.S. should be better at playing his game than he is.
If he wants to see the WTC site, I'd have taken him there, given him a personal 4 hour tour, introduced him to families of the deceased, and stood there until he denounced the attack.
And then I'd press him to start working jointly with the U.S. on Iraqi security issues - something which really is important to both sides. A more peaceful Iraq will be an Iranian ally. A more peaceful Iraq gives the U.S. the chance to claim final victory and leave.
Don't get me wrong, Ahmadinejad is a bomb. But the U.S. is missing an opportunity to try to defuse him.
