Aeroplan and air miles?????

Does anyone know how to maximize both of these point totals, what credit cards are best for points? I'm asked everywhere if I collect them and I always say no. I would like to start maximizing my points, any info is helpful.

They're two different programs, not related.
I max aeroplan milage collection by using an aeroplan visa card.

I use the aeroplan platinim from american express, It gives you 1.5 air miles for every dollar you spend. I put all my bills (enbridge, hydro, phone ETC) on the cards automatic payment plan and get my gas at ESSO ... the miles really add up. Once you get a few miles built up it gives you access to the VIP lounges at most airports and seat upgrades with Air Canada.

Keep in mind that this is not a credit card so you must may your bill in full at the end of each month.

I use a Gold AMEX. The AMEX points can be redeemed a zillion ways and transfer 1:1 to Aeroplan or many other loyalty programmes. I am in the process of booking two flights to Australia on points. It's well worth the effort....

But as CP pointed out, you have to pay it promptly in full, or they spank you... and not in a nice way!

You can also open an account at Points.com and transfer/convert points from other loyalty programs.

Yes, I was able to transfer miles from one airline to another.

But, the transfer ratio was depressing ... for example, 10K or so miles on American translated to about 1K on Air Canada.

Ditto, considering upgrade to Platinum when I redeem for longhaul flight to use the EU/Asia flight lounge.

On seperate note, Aeroplan brought UK reward program, so Air Miles will have stiff competition.

I also buy gas at ESSO and get miles using Bell Canada for phone service. I'm taking my first free trip via aeroplan miles this January going to Australia. The miles can really add up. Essentially, 4 roundtrips to Australia gives you enough mileage for a free trip. That's a pretty good ratio!

I used to have AMEX, but CIBC has a Gold Aeroplan credit card.

When you do outcalls with babes, stay at Sheratons (aka: Starwood Hotels) and sign up for their promos. At 20K SPG points, transfer them to Aeroplan with a 5K bonus. In fact do it before the end of the year and get an additional 2.5K bonus. Maximize additional with Starwood's AMEX card with 10K up front plus bonus points per stay, we're talking a quick 50K like that to Aeroplan.

I don't fly Air Canada. Instead I fly Cathay Pacific (CX) and use American Airline's AAdvantage program to their Emerald level. Much better FF program (although American Airlines can suck too), it coughs up 1st Class Lounge access with One World, so you can tell with my flying in NRT and HKG, I get the best lounges and the best seats.

All I need now is the best Japanese babe to share my free any Hilton Hawaiian resort hotel night certificates with before they expire next year. I don't want to jack off by myself with 5 star hotel resort free-bees.
