On my last hand I was holding a Q and A... pot was big... the flop, turn and river turned up a Q, A, 6, 6, 9... only one other guy in there with me, I go all in with the rest of my chips ($147), thinking dude had only a pair of A's, nope, pulls out a third 6... he was playing it slow betting about $10 at a time.

Man... I was chasing a Full House and came so close... I didn't think I'd lose with a 2 pair... Qs and As... ergh.

Bright side is... I only lost $90 tonight... so it wasn't that bad.

It's a weekly thing for me and chances are... I won't stop playing... it's actually fun.

always dangerous to slow play like you did. you should have went all in on the flop hoping someone else had big slick or aj, a6, straight draw, or something.

as oil mentioned, play tournament tables if money is a concern for you.

I know hundreds of guys that started out loosing a few bucks a week to

increasing it to double triple and before they knew it ....the

mortagage .....the car ....and some had breakdowns/attemping suicide ,yet they always said it was fun too .Its amazing what a gambling addiction can do ......

the most common daily story is .......Oh im not going back ......im pissed ....im so upset i feel sick .......im sick and tired of feeling this way .......why am i so stupid ?......Im broke ! .......how could i spend so much in one night!.. ........iM ASHAMED!.....MY FAMILY IS GONNA KILL ME !......nowonder im single im always gambling i guess ?.the minute money comes into ones hands .....its off to the races ,poker or slots again ......then trhey loose and this self deteriating cycle keeps going and going until you either breakdown /depressed or find a way to hustle more money to keep up the habit

I use to devote years of helping gamblers when i lost a very kewl member of the family to it cause he just couldnt face the music of his debt ..

not saying you Gawd have a problem at all ,you could be the few that afford to loose that money everymonth and smart enough to save that money the next month to use on yourself instead of gambling

casinos are not built to loose(no matter howlucky one gets ..you will never be ahead ...never)

All i can say is that if anyone hasa gambling problem theres GA(gamblers Anonomous) meetings every night in toronto have one thing in common they want to quit, theres no religion involved ,just lots of people to be there for you at the drop of a hat ,incase any of you dont think its possible it is with GA..then you will actually have a huge win cause you wont be pissing your hard earned money away anymore

Luckily it's a small event... a group of people at someone's house... not a casino or larger venue... so the chances of me putting up my car is minimal... besides, the rest of the playing group wouldn't accept anything like that in a game like this.

Thanks for the advice Alexis, but there's nothing to worry about... although if you really are concerned for me, you can always proactively prevent me from reaching that slippery slope by scheduling me for an hour session and counselling me... and relieving my stress...

Those 2 pair flops can be dangerous. You're tempted to slow play them but I've seen more than my fair share of beats - trips and flushes. My advice is to come out betting hard.

Gambling is fine if you are willing to lose the amount you bet. If you can't afford to lose that money you should not be playing. Easier said than done I guess.

playing professionally for the last 5 years now making more money then i was working full time and the kicker is it's all tax free.
Read in Canadian Poker Player that if you are a professonaly player (and in a court of law you would have to admit that you use skill to make money) then it is taxable. But kudos to you for making money.

To me poker is not gambling, unless you think that A - 3 offsuit is good enough to call a raise. Yes it is addicting, I will admit that. But like any sort of addiction the key is not to let it get out of hand. For me I do play on-line, but am able to walk away, though I'm not always happy to do so.

For me, I like the fact that you're making money playing a game. Also the interaction with other people, though it is limited when I play on-line.

I agree with Oil, that sit n go's are good to play, but a tip is play with play money first. When you get to a point where you're not reloading your play money bank roll and can eventually move up a couple of levels of buy-ins, then you're ready to play $1-$5 games. At pokerstars, you start of with 10K play money, and when you lose it all you can click and get another 10k. When I started playing the play money sit n go's like it was real money, I started coming 1st or 2nd out of 45 a number of times. Later moved up to the next buy-in levels ... long story short, i have about 415k of play money now.

Difficult to analyze if you played your hand correctly without having sat at your table and watched how the other player has played throughout the night. I play the other players at my table, not the cards and I have done quite well over the years.

They have no way of taxing you and this is why they don't....... there is no way of tracking exact $ amounts won.
Sure they can track money transferred to and from bank accounts, but there is no way to prove this is won money as third party sites like www.neteller.com do all the work for you and you never actually send the money yourself to a poker site. Since gambling online is illegal in Canada this is why there is the need for a third party site.
They also have no way of tracking every casino in North America that i go to and play poker at and definitely have no way of knowing how much i won or lost if I don’t ask for a receipt when cashing out.
They also don’t credit you for your losses. I lost 10’s of thousands of $’s my first 5-6 years playing and I was never given any type of tax refund on that, so how can they tax me on my last 5 when i finally turned it around and am profiting.
Now if your an American this is a totally different story.
when my now ex boyfriend won 50,000 at a keno type machine in the states 4 years ago they asked for id !to get 30 %

that year alone he won over 1,000,000 (30%came off in taxes from this )buckaroos we traveled to every casino around north america we went and guess what any big win overa certain amount at the casino needed id well since he was a major gambler he blew it all then when taxes came he had to get a second mortgage (house was paid now he had to start over again !) lost the bmw oh yeah they will tax your ass !!!!Dont be silly ! maybe you guys are talking small cash here i suppose?

I have a question for you guys ..........whats the largest amount you have won ?

Having 2 pairs on the fold is not a good hand. Heck, anyone holding AA, QQ, 66 beats it just on the fold alone. Your chances got especially slim once the rest of the cards did not help you at all. Playing that type of hand slow is fine, but all in when you only have 2 pairs?????

No were not talking small change here, you are just talking about something totally different. You are talking about playing casino house games where only in the United States do you get taxed over a certain amount. No Canadian casino will tax you on any amount won in the hundreds or millions at any of their casinos, they treat it just like the lotteries. (and yes i know this for a fact i dealt in an OLGC casino for 7 years before retiring at age 26 to play full time) Lottery and casino winnings are all tax free in Canada. As i said in my prior post in the States it is totally different.
Hold em Poker isn't a house game and you don't win outrageous amounts in one sitting (unless you are in a major tournament) you win them over time. :)
Yes that is correct The united States i wrote it wrong oops .......not canada ....well im sure when you worked at a casino you seen a lot of guys loose more then win ? Some of the best players were always retired dealers its makes very good sense too ....... glad to hear your ahead of the game (which is so rare ) congrads

Another Plane Of Existence
Canada = No tax on winnings whatsoever
USA = Tax on winnings and usually 30%

I've won almost $900 in one night... and in one shot almost $300.

I went all in cuz I thought he had a pair of A's... and the flop brought up the 2 pairs for me right away and therefore had to chase a full house... as explained in my very first post.

I gamble cuz I have the money to gamble... and I don't gamble a lot anyway... at most $150 per event... whether it's the casino, poker at a buddy's, or slots, and it's not a regular thing. Haven't been to a casino in years, no slots in as long a time, and weekly poker nights with buddies (which have the least amount of risk for money lost).
