A thank you to the Terbite who suggested "Instinct" for Baron(golden retriever)

As you may remember I picked up Baron in December. He was four and a half months old. He had a bad dandruff problem and as well as having constant itches. The "instinct" worked beautifully on the dandruff and the inching has been reduced by about 75%. I'm feeding him 50% Instinct and 50% Pro Plan. I'll keep increasing the Instinct till the itching disappears.

New question. I like to give him a treat, from time to time, of an egg at breakfast(he's fed twice a day). Has anyone else tried this? What about other human foods as a treat from time to time.

I was really lucky with this dog. He's smart and loving. Thinks he's a lap dog from time to time. (35lbs presently). Great breed.

I feed my dog raw meat (beef, organs, turkey) and blanched vegetables - it makes a huge difference - its what they are supposed to eat.
Kibble is practical - I suggest canadian brands such as Orijen or Acana with real meat. Most US brands have ingredients made in China which are sub standard. Go to the websites and compare. All Orijen ingredients are Canadian.

I also give my dog raw dehydrated treats such as trachea and tendon, liver and lung etc go to nothingadded.ca Huge benefits in these treats such as pure vitamins, minerals. Also Glucosamine and Chondritin which are good for joints in big active dogs.

Never feed human food. Never give cooked bones - RAW ARE OK. Cooking bones make them harder. If feeding a cow bone - use the knuckle joint part which is softer and porous. Its called the bone meal - this is great for calcium and cleans them out.

The egg is good as a supplement - raw prefferred or soft boiled almost raw - twice per week. Also good is sardines - Brunswick in water.
along with the raw feeding I give my dog Omega Alpha vitamins and there is also fish oil for pets

these make a tremendous difference - my dog doesnt have the typical smell, super shiny coat, clean teeth, excellent joints and he is extremly active - we go hiking 3-4 hrs and he doesnt get tired.

Our breeder suggested that salmon was great. When I make us sandwiches and squeeze out the juice from the can, it goes on the dogs dinner. We did not have any for a few months when living in hotels and her skin got itchy and fur less shiny

Oh about meat, Raw meat can contain parasites. They can be killed by cooking or freezing the meat solid for a few days.

As I mentioned cooking makes the bones rock hard and or brittle that can break into shards. Yes freezing can kill parasites. However, in this day and age it is not as bad as people think. It has the same "parasite danger" as eating medium rare meat. Dogs have higher HCL Levels (stomach acid) so they can even eat rotting meat. Ive been feeding my dog raw organic bones for years with bi annual poop tests and no parasites at all.
