Here you go Simon.

Faith in God is the only way for a true hardcore addict to escape the grip of his or her addiction.

Not necessarily in God, but in a Higher Power.

The 12 Step crowd don't want to exclude the atheists, agnostics, and non-Jehovan addicts.

I read it (in its entirety), and found it insightful. Not saying I agree with everything the Rabbi wrote, but still an interesting read. I'm not going to give you the 15-word summary, though, because spoon-feeding is for infants and CEOs (they call them "Executive Summaries").

Thanks to Sleazure for an interesting post. Pity some don't have the open mind and/or attention span to appreciate it.

An articulate piece, for certain, however, I do not agree with the conclusion.

True addiction is a very powerful force, however, people overcome it all the time and they do so through their own inner strength and the support of those closest to them.

Telling victimised families that there is nothing they could have done may help ease their grief but it does so at the expense of personal accountability. Religion appeals to those who want to pass ultimate responsibility for their actions to a "higher power". The rest of us know that we are responsible for our own behaviour.

Ah yes, but had you read the entire article, you would have realized it wasn't just about Amy Winehouse. There's a bigger picture - Amy is just a timely example.

That whoosing sound you heard was the point missing you.... ;)

the key to being a good writer is being able to catch and keep your readers attention. he did not catch or keep.

If you did not find the article compelling you are certainly within your rights not to read it. However, you probably should also refrain from commenting on it as well.

i was commenting on the article as what was told to me what it said in a rational and adult way. this person came in and took some shots at me, so i responded.
