How the hell do I clean all the dust and gunk that has settled itself under my keyboard? I don't know for sure but could this be the reason my laptop runs so hot?

You can purchase cans of compressed air to blow out the dust,(any computer store, staples, costo has em too) but depending how bad you might want consider the video below.

Short cycle on the dishwasher will do it.

I will stick with the compressed air lol, If I did that I KNOW I would end up losing or breaking something.

Turn off pc. Hold the keyboard upside down and hit it with bursts of compressed air then do a 180 with the keyboard and repeat the spraying. That should do the trick.

You can also get keyboard covers, which are just elasticized clear plastic covers that go on top of your keyboard, you will still have to clean it first, but this will stop it getting it dirty in the first place.

Plastic wrap would work in a pinch as well.

I sometimes have to access TERB from a computer at internet cafes (please don't ask why). I swear I see stuff moving underneath the keys. That is why I wear latex gloves. Hee, hee, hee.

I regularly vacuum laptop keyboard and side vents and try to keep it as clean as possible. Heat build up from dirty plugged vents will shorten their life.

Wouldn't a cover or saran wrap just worsen overheating? I have noticed that heat comes up through the top of the laptop as well as through the ventilation underneath and at the side......

Definitely!!! Saran wrap is a bad idea!

Better to keep things open and clean.

this is the way to do it...you wouldn't want that stuff flying up into those greenies...plus wipe down after with clorox wipes and if you have the time...use a qtip for the sides of the keys...takes a bit of time but good as new afterwards...just did this for a used computer i just bought...

sometimes a really good vaccum does it with the compressed air, cause the compressed air just pushes it one side does not actually take it out the keyboard.
This is why I prefer vacuuming.
A friend's 6 yr old desktop PC was running hot with the fans blowing high speed all the time. Opened it up for the first time and it was absolutely filthy inside. Carefully vacuumed it out, closed it back up and it ran quiet again like when new. If compressed air was used it would have made quite a mess blowing that dirt all over the place.

Get a small, good quality sash brush. Natural bristle. Brush the keyboard. To remove gunk, try using the same brush dipped in rubbing alcohol. Not too much. With the power off.
