As I'm getting up there in years, one big fear I have, is, in not to distant future, is to be living alone and being forgotten!

Today, in St Jean sur Richelieu a man was found dead.
He was dead for over two and a half months, before anyone found him in his appartment!
A truely sad sad story, to die alone and forgotten!

This story just proves to me that there is merit in sticking it out with your SO. We all get old and loneliness can become dreadful in later years.

if you are worried about dying alone and not being found for some time

Strap yourself to the bed every night

this way when you die and they find you; people will wonder who killed you. face it everyone you know will know you died.

It's common. When I used to do Meals on Wheels, some seniors stay on the delivery lists, just so they have someone to visit them.

Over the years, had 1 MOW 70 yr old client died on me (dying to see me?), and 2 seniors fell in their apartment.

If health is a concern, consider Assisted Living building/communities. You can enter or leave at will, family member can stay overnight. Just not SP, unless they're your 'grand-daugther', we're not as progress as Sweden.

Also MedicAlert buttons,
In Canada, http://www.medicalert.ca/en/index.asp
In U.S.:

Mingo, don't think you've to worry. Just need a J or K cuttie to jumpstart your battery every so often. Good health to you my friend.

I hope to go peacefully, but my passengers will be screaming their heads off in terror.

In the laboratory.
If you die alone, at least you won't embarrass yourself by doing it badly.

So true , it's something young people don't seem to think of . What's sad is eventually one of the spouses will die before the other and leave a real old person alone. Hopefully they have some other family who cares what happens to them.

Old Couple!

One thing that always stuck in my mind and I'm thinking of it a lot recently, I don't know why?
Back in Japan, when I was very young, sixteen years old there was an old couple living next door, late eighties
They had no childern and I guess no close relatives, so they were always a lone together. Well one day the wife passed away, now here was guy who never did anything at home, cooking cleaning, etc. and was alway at home with his wife. I used to go over and see a few times, it was so so sad, it just stuck in my mind, how he lived or tried to live. I helped out the best I could, my mother came over a few times to help. Anyway eight months later he passed away! When I got sick last year, I was alone and it was tough, crawing around the condo and trying to take care of myself, without any help!
Oh getting old is no fun!!

People tend to view old people as dirty, ugly, and useless. That is why no one wants to bother with them or associate with them. :(

I think it's much, much harder for women. Sadly, in society, the value of a woman is highly tied to how young and attractive she is. When they're old and ugly, women become worthless.
