A guy tried to sell me a $2500 Kirby vacuum cleaner. Who would buy such a thing?

I have heard the name before, but irt is the first time I ever encountered a Kirby salesman. He tried to sell me a $2500 vacuum cleaner. What could the Kirby possibly do that other vacumm cleaners can't do?

Wow and i told some people don't waste your money on a Dyson which is a bargain to that :D
Never heard of a Kirby, but a Dyson is worth every penny. I can't imagine any vacuum being better..

Kirby has been around a long long time. Always the same. High pressure sales.

Or low pressure...depends on which end I suppose.

All of those door to door vacumes are extremely over priced.

Kirby, Filter Queen, Tri-Star have all be around for decades and work on the same sales model.

Once in the home, the high pressure sales is turned up. Most of the sales people don't really know what the machine is worth, all they know is that they have to sell for X dollars and that they keep every penny above that. Most of them are sold for $3,000 to $3,700. these days.

While the three named above are decent machines and will last for a long time, IMHO they are simply not worth anything over $700.

It is because of these high pressure sales that the Ontario government introduced a 10 day cooling off period for in home sales. Too many elderly people were being subjected to high pressure sales.

I know someone personally who had a Kirby vaccuum cleaner. After 30 years, the motor burned out, and the machine was replaced under warranty.

Try that with any other product today and tell me how far you get.

I'm a big Consumer Reportd fan. Just looked at the latest issue. Hoover has an $80 machine in 3rd place and Kirby's $1350 is in 10th. Kirby does have the best reliabity, but for $1350 you could buy 15 Hoovers and have $150 left over for some fun sucking!!

I agree that is amazing customer service. I have to challenge the price, though. I moved out of my parents' house 24 years ago and am on my second vaccuum cleaner since. Both were/are excellent machines that provided me better service than I expected and that cleaned my apartments and houses to an exceptional standard. Total cash outlay for 2 machines over 24 years is less than $500. I have no idea what additional or improved service I would get from spending triple/quadruple that, or more, for a Kirby or any other vaccuum.

It's been good to know ya
lol My Mother had a Kirby and a Filter Queen at different times. Those are the only two vacuums I ever remember her buying. Both from in home sales people. I remember when she owned the filter queen and a Kirby guy came by our house she let them in to do the demonstration and would ask questions like how is it on furniture etc... by the time she finished she had the cat hair cleaned off her dining table chair that the cat always sat on her carpet and her sofa. She let the guy go with no sale and pleasantly told him I currently own a filter queen that I am quite happy with but will keep you in mind. ha ha Later she joked with me how she got her place cleaned and did not have to pull out her vacuum. I noticed a trend with my Mom for always allowing those guys in her home but shoeing everyone else away by closing the door in their faces.
