A long time a go I had a Robot program for newsgroups. It automatically scan every freaking group that you clicked and it brought down files from 7 years ago if it was there. I think I still have the shareware versiion somewhere but Google it.

Are all these programs with a fee applied?

I tried using Grabit - after selecting 6 files - it told me my limit has been eached and i have to be a nickel a month?

Any of these programs free? Like limewire, bittorrent or kazaa?

Most of them are free.
However you may have to pay a subscription fee to the newsgroups if your ISP doesn't offer you any free newsgroups.

asn, Thanks.
This is an excellent link on newsgroups and newsreaders.

I use Newsleecher to download files, and I have an account at Newshosting for $15 a month, unlimited downloads (usually at speeds surpassing 600k).

Newsleecher has a feature called "Supersearch" which allows you to search for a specific file, or type of file on the newsgroups and download that.

Since Rogers caps torrent download speeds, and their own newsgroup access is capped as well, I don't mind paying the $15. It's a small price to pay to access the VAST amount of software, games, apps, pics, vids, music, etc that's on the newsgroups.

There is a bit of a learning curve with newsgroup downloading, but once you get used to it, it's easy. Also, the newest version of Newsleecher actually automatically extracts the file for you as well.
