An MP that I visit when I can, called me to say she would be at 29 Mtl. Road at 2:00. I arived at " ??? seasons spa" She had responded to "help wanted" signs. I found a hairdressers where all the patrons and staff gave me a quiet once-over, tiny rooms, 1 small towel, cold, cheap tables, but a lock on the door so my MP and I had good time except for the crappy tables. After 1 hour I go to pay the door fee and the Jamican girl/manager announces $80 + Tax for the hour. total $92. Charged GST and PST (not required). I'll be back to collect. See Ottawa sun -"A FANTASY Alluring sensual surprises. Massage Featuring Exotic Bombshell. Hiring 878-xxxx." I'll not be back nor will my MP friend. She was paid a generous one green and she supplied the client!

thanks for the warning - if any, the door fee should always be up front. If they want PST/GST ask for a receipt :)

how much was the service - are we up near $200 for this crappy adventure ??

Why is charging tax illegal. GST would definitely apply, but I am not sure about PST. It is an admission fee and generally tickets to entertainment events are subject to PST.

fantasy

My understanding (IMHO) is that PST is applicable to goods (products) while GST applies to Good and services. Having run a business where both were supplied and audited the distinctions were clear or made clear by the auditors.
But as is always the case, I stand to be corrected.

The only other place I have been to that charges is Linda's and she charges only GST.

Who actually reports and submits is, I guess, between them and the applicaple
governments.

I shall edit my post to indicate unnecessary rather than illegal.

Total contribution was $152.

OH well, Live and learn

yeah, well - I'd guess it is illegal to collect GST and PST on behalf of the government when you aren't remitting those taxes back to the government.

I'd want to see proof (like a GST #) that they pay those taxes back to fed and prov government, otherwise, they are doing something illegal.

Its fine to offer a massage and charge a fee. but as soon as you start charging tax on it, you had better be paying it to government or else you will be reported to Revenue Canada.
