Saturday Nov. 5, 10 PM
A two-hour special that looks at prostitution around the world. Explores Israel's underground adult world, run by the Russian mafia; Japan's $1000-a-night Geisha girls; and Nevada's Mustang Ranch. Then, peek behind closed doors at Moscow's elite "Beauty Queen" club, Los Angeles's booming sex-for-sale business, and the sex industry in Thailand, Miami, and Cuba.

Never the safest place
Was it a repeat? It was the first time I've seen it. A little too long at two hours, but at least it wasn't quite as preachy and totally negative as you would usually expect from an American-produced TV show on this subject. Disturbing to see them setting up hotel stings just to arrest outcall escorts in Las Vegas, as they showed them doing in the last few minutes. That really seems to be a completely pointless waste of police resources. I think that's the first time I can remember hearing the terms "incall" and "outcall" used on a TV show.

You would think that it would be a waste of time but what most people don't know is the casinos pay the police of Las Vegas to have these sort of raids. Las Vegas Police Department gets a lot of money from them, not just from the government. The reason is this: The casinos believe that these ladies are taking away from potential profits if the guys spend money on the girls and not in the slots. Most hotels have their own working girls who are on their payroll. These girls make sure the clients keep spending the cash at that particular hotel. Just say I know a bit about what goes on down there.

Very slanted view on prostitution making it out like it’s all a bad thing. Showing the girls in the Thai massage parlors looking sad… they don’t look like that when I’m in there.

Oh yeah it just happens to be ratings sweeps week in the US. So A&E playing an old show on hookers is there way to boost rating. Who ever said sex doesn’t sell? :D

Interesting. In all my trips to Vegas, I've never seen any working girls in the casino. Then again, I'm always glued to a slot machine and don't spend too much time in the bars and lounges. Perhaps they only come into play if you're a high roller or got lucky and became one. Anyway, I don't think you're going to see these kinds of "comps" advertised on Vegas reality shows or tourist brochures.

My observations are:

1. Vegas PD, like most West Coast PDs, comes down hard on prostitution, unlike East Coast cops, who are more likely to ignore it.
2. There are plenty of stupid tourists who think that prostitution is legal in Vegas. It's not legal in Clark County where Vegas is, but is legal in neighboring Nye County, and only then in the form of licensed brothels.
3. Whatever outcall operations are in Vegas are usually B&S, upsell, or downright robbery. So in this sense, it's almost a good idea for the cops to be busting these characters.

I'll be there for an early Thanksgiving vacation. Maybe I'll try to look like a high roller :D .

Unfortunately, the general public worldwide does not look at prostitution in a favorable light. For a more glowing perspective on prostitution, you may want to check out the History Channel's History of Sex/History of Prostitution series.

Just for the sake of gossip, does anyone recall the full list of well known names listed as clients in the book of one of the American escorts interviewed during the show? I was returning from the kitchen just as the page of the book was disappearing from the TV screen. David Crosby was the only name I caught.

Thanks. I found this with a google search. It was this book.
You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again
by Joanne Parrent, Jennie Frankel, with Liza, Linda, Tiffany, and Robin [Newstar 1995, 251pp.]
...Most of the celebrities named in this book are from the film and TV industries, but several rock stars are also mentioned: George Harrison, Rod Stewart, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Billy Idol, and David Crosby all get the "kiss and tell" treatment.

The fact they openly handout suggestive escort picture cards on the strip, got some thinking - America the free.

It was so funny, my relatives were taking every cards and flyers handed to them and put it in their pocket or handbag, without looking at the content. Should hear their reaction when they saw what they were when we got back to the hotel.

How many girls you know would dive into the BIZ......................................

............................If they could get 3 months salary for one nights work like in Moscow or Havana?

The final segment of this program had me almost screaming at the TV in a combination of frustration and fury.

The smug, faux saddened tone of voice of the Las Vegas PD officer who was lamenting how escorting had 'ruined these girls for life' made me sick.

Sexwork didn't 'ruin them', you idiot - you barging in with a camera crew and busting them while they were naked did. Putting them into a position where they have a criminal record, simply because they preferred to work independently, rather than be pimped by a brothel owner, is what ruined them.

Fucking assholes.

American defectives.

I once saw a TV program called american detectives, and this reality show crew went along to film call girls getting busted. They made the girls talk on camera about their bosses. The cops and the production crew are real parasites, what do you think happened to the girls after the program aired on TV?

P.S. There was a segment on Amsterdam
