A $2 bet to win paid $163.60. Only got in the 20 horse field because another entrant scratched at the very last moment.

Not really a horse racing guy but this is definitely the proverbial Cinderella story.

Guessing the odds will be lower in this colt's next race.

There'll be a movie made with Tobey Maquire as the jockey

That was an exciting race to watch. There was some luck involved too though. If you follow Rich Strike from the beginning, its only coming off the last turn that the hand of God seemed to intervene and opened an inside lane for him to charge through on the rail while everyone else was drifting outwards. He made one quick jog about 50metres from the line to go around a slower horse and slipped past. Credit to the jockey for knowing when to drive into the gaps!

I was trying to find somewhere how fast (the time) the horse ran in the last quarter mile. To the naked eye, it was the fastest I have ever seen a horse run in the stretch...and I have been a horse racing fan for decades.

He had the benefit of lightning fast early times which sets the race up for closers.

Yes, I know that...but he passed so many horses including the favorites....A sprinter horse can do a quarter mile in about 21 seconds....but not after running a mile

The winner's time for the entire race, (2:02.61), is about 3.2 seconds slower than that of Secretariat in the 1973 derby.
