Samsung claims to have made a breakthrough into the next generation of 5G.

I'm using 3G service (~ 1 Meg/sec max) and I'm happy. Possibly I could see 4G for live HD TV/Movies but 5G seems like over kill. I need a couple seconds to download work files in the cloud - when I call them up. Maybe 4G if people need a blink of an eye downloading but 5G ..?

Can anyone give me a practical reason for 5G service on a mobile device ?

There's no practical reason since the infrastructure of the net is what determines download speed. This is a nice advancement on paper, but the reality is that it's pointless.

Capacity always finds a use...

I went from 3G to 4G LTE and it's like Wifi speeds... much faster. Necessary - I don't know, convenient, yes. Downloaded a TV show (Big Bang Theory) before a flight. 5G, that would have taken single digit minutes, nice. Again, necessary, I don't know.

I don't care if Apple, Blackberry or Nokia have it - I agree, it seems like a useless feature. I still can't think of a 5G use that I would need such a huge amount of data in a short period of time. That is why I started the thread - to see if there is one activity or APP that could require this data speed.

Unnecessary, but a great (selling) "feature". It'll look great in ads, posters, commercials etc, etc. People will of course buy it up and want the "latest, greatest".

i download a lot of movies to my computer using my phone as the modem. i would love this. 4glte is fast but 5g sounds faster. probably take them a while to get the network for it up though.
