I am really liking this pride weekend shit where bars, including sc's, are open to 4am. Why isn't this all the time?

I don't work tomorrow. Being out to 4 feels about right.

You obviously didn't get the memo. The place is called "Toronto the Good."

I get around.
If you're not drunk by 2:00 am you're not really trying!

Toronto's loosened up quite a bit, bars stay open until 4:00 am during TIFF, too.

Why should bars have to stop serving at all? I'm sure there are plenty of shift workers who'd like a drink at 6-7am the end of their workday.

I'm sure there's bar workers who would like to go home at some point.
There are also unemployed people who would love to pick up a late shift. Each business should be able to decide for itself when to close, and only those with enough demand for it would stay open. I am sure many would still close at 2, but a popular downtown pub might run brisk business until 6am on a weekend.

Most bars aren't likely going to hire extra staff for a few hours a couple days/week. Their existing staff will end up working longer days, whether they want to or not.
If there is customer demand they will add a 9 to 4am shift. If there isn't sufficient demand for extra staff they will close up at 2. Lots of people will be glad to have the extra work.

Have you ever run a restaurant or bar? I do, and that's not how it works. You're not going to pay someone to work 7 hours, when you only need someone for 2.5 hours. If you do, you'll find yourself out of business very quickly.
All the shifts will be moved around. If it were a one off like pride weekend they will just extend shifts. But long term the whole rota will be aligned to have the right number on at the right time.

And if it isn't cost effective they will close up. Being allowed to open all night doesn't mean being required to stay open.

You do know there are a lot of jurisdictions where there is no arbitrary closing time, and guess what? People figure it out.

It's in honour of Ford returning from rehab.
