...amen.

Let those of us who do pray that God provides our President with the wisdom and temperance to lead a great nation during a troubled time.

And may God also provide comfort and solace to President Bush, a man who I believe loved both God and his country, and had the most sincere best interests of the United States at heart in his decisions. His coming days may be difficult as he has to endure the criticism of those who have never walked in his shoes, knowing that he only sought to provide for the safety and prosperity of the people who elected him as their leader. While I will be amongst those critics, I also acknowledge what I believe to be President Bush's clarity of conscious and purpose. I thank him for his effort.

Why?

Because I had the temerity to recognize and thank the man for his service to his country, even if I didn't always agree with the way he served it? That makes me a "heavy drug user"?

It is attitudes like yours which turned "liberal" into a bad word....

Why should god comfort a man who swore hand on the bible that he would uphold the US constitution and then did everything he could to violate it?

Bush is a deeply religous man, I wonder if he realizes his own beliefs would destin him to hell if correct. Of course he has shown no skill for self-reflection so I doubt it.

...perhaps because He is God and isn't given to such petty partisan particulars regarding who is entitled to His grace?

Just a thought....

God isn't partisan. LMAO! I'd call the flood or the pillar of salt thing pretty damn partisan myself.

...that God wasn't partisan...I said he wasn't given to "petty partisan particulars". In this case, emphasis is on "petty"...as in the type of partisan perspective that doesn't allow a person to grant a man gratitude for effort in service, if not execution.

If Barrack Obama can thank both John McCain and George Bush for their service, I can as well. Their is no honor in kicking a man who has acknowledged his mistakes within his ability to do so (I agree self reflection is not one of President Bush's strengths, but I felt I saw some the other day), and is taking his leave on the day he is doing so.

There will be plenty of time for a post game analysis, and I will be right in there with my two cents. However, I can muster enough respect for the office and its enormous responsibilities to allow him to leave office on the last day of his service with my genuine thanks. There will be plenty of opportunity tomorrow and going forward for me to express my criticisms.

Let's just let Bush slide into the black hole of the historical trash bin. Its time to forget. I'm not inclined to relive these very painful eight years.
Wisdom in those words.

Ok this I get and respect, and the fact that I have trouble agreeing with it says something I don't like a lot about me. I understand thanking him for serving and doing what he thought was right, and leaving the judgement of whether it was right or wrong to tomorrow.

I would say leave it at that and keep god out of it. But then I wish we could dothat with everything.

I watched the inauguration and the speach. It was one hell of a speach, the man is going to need all his abilities and wits about him to navigate the waters in Washington in order to get any of his platform going. There will be massive disagreement with a lot of what he wants to do from both sides of the isle as well as all the usual monied suspects.

I do wish the man well but I have a feeling that he is going to have to be superman at worst in order to go through or around his opponents in the beltway. The problems internationally are a subject for later discussion.

I heard some commentator say that today..... I guess they forgot about Jimmy Carter's daughter and Bill Clinton's daughter who were both school age when their fathers took office. But then, the liberal media have been tripping over themselves to find similarities between Obama and Kennedy for months.

The media is a problem I was watching CNN and about ohh 3 or 4 seconds after the speach ended they were pointing out all the parts where he was refuting the Bush administrations actions. The least they could do would be wait until he got on the plane home.

I've criticised former President Bush as much as anyone, but let's put two items into perspective.

The Economy.

The recession we're in is the result of 25 years of Reaganomics, Bush may not have understood the need for reform but neither did any President before him.

Hurricane Katrina.

The response may have been shambolic but New Orleans brought the disaster upon itself. The dykes and leeves that kept the city dry were badly in need of repair, there was no initiative to get the job done. Also as the surrounding, and protective, marshlands were drained away. Those same leeves and dykes needed to be tripled in size - no chance of that happening. When Katrina hit, New Orleans was as helpless as a skunk on the 401.
